Are you a board gamer, and brave enough to have a crack at building this general-purpose card holder? If so, I'd love to see photos of how you fared!
Download the (free) pattern: drive.google.com/drive/folder...
There's also a pattern for a smaller, euro-sized card holder, for cards up to 50mm wide. It is the same design as the one shown in the video, except that it is four slots wide (instead of 3), and it does not include a rear compartment.

Great job man any chance of a small euro sized version?

As it happens... yes! I made a version to fit Euro sized cards, for my copy of Oathsworn, and it works a treat (as it's four decks wide, rather than 3). I've added more info to the video description (above), and the files are in the download link. Happy crafting!

Thanks for the feedback. With your experience, you'd probably do a better job than I did. I'm planning to make some inserts myself, soon, starting with Oathsworn.

I have been looking for something exactly like this, thanks so much! Also, protip I learnt while making foam core part holders for Gloomhaven: Use sewing pins to hold everything in place while it dries, easy to remove and you don't risk tearing off the outer paper if the glue sticks to painters tape.

Thanks for the feedback, and the great tip. I haven't seen that technique before.

I always use sewing pins, but I often leave them in the insert, making sure the head goes inside the foam core surface. It makes the inserts sturdier (one might argue that is not needed) and I prefer the inserts looking like they have tiny studs than seeing the pin holes. By the way, a useful tip I learned: when you place the pins, do not place them parallel to each other but in opposite diagonals, as that improves the sturdiness of the connection (even if you plan on pulling them out after the glue dries).

So I just finished building this, the blueprints make it so easy :) Also 3mm thick foamboard was perfectly fine. Holds all Mage Knight decks.

That's great - and it's good to know that there's some flexibility with the foamboard thickness, too. Happy gaming!

just assembled it yesterday afternoon, it looks very practical (haven't tried it yet). I just made a few tweaks here and there, like lifting up the back display level so the cards can be fully shown, and addes 2 small plates to store the arkham horror scenario doom & clue tokens ;) it's nice to have something to hold both the scenario and players decks !

Really dumb question, sorry... How did you raise the back display?
@spideywebswing
@spideywebswing Жыл бұрын
@@DevilboyScooby nothing too fancy, I raised the back ground holes like 2cm up, and that's it, the small back part where cards rest is now higher ! you just gotta be careful when measuring, since these holes aren't on the original layout ;)

This exactly the kind of deck holder I have been looking for. But I need one for smaller cards. Sleeved American mini to be exact. For my Zombicide games. Would it work if I resized some of the outlines? Great video format bu the way!

@@adventuresincreativesoftwa6283 Ok... So the first two times I tried to reply KZfaq scrapped my comment because I added links to a gallery, third time I forgot autoplay and it switched page when I was nearly done... Fourth try then! I picked the Euro card holder template from your google drive and it worked great for the format I needed! All was super easy to prepare and assemble, I used repositionable adhesive tape (like the one you would use for painting or hobby masking) to maintain every paper cut out in place while I was cutting the foamboard, I even almost knicked my finger with the pen knife for added authenticity! In the end some of my card decks were still too high (especialy sleeved) so I had to customize your card holder a bit! I cut the deck separator in half and made individual deck holders with higher was to replace them (which I can also take out if I need). All in all it really was an idiot proof design! Thanks again for putting out one of the best well made, easy to follow tutorial I have seen on KZfaq! I'm not gonna try to post picture links again, but looks great! Maybe I'll even paint it or add felt!

@@mr78K lol, literally right now I am also changing the design in Adobe Illustrator for Zombicide Invader and Ticket to ride, which are very high decks. Could you share your design with me?
@mr78K
@mr78K 6 ай бұрын
@@tetsuyakenshi Calling it a design is a bit of a stretch! I improvised by cutting into a thin pasta box I had! /drive/folders/1U_D951bHNDXE3mFN-J4OCH2rpExec4WP?usp=drive_link (add drive dot google before the first slash maybe posted this way the comment won't be scrapped) width of the indivitual holders was 5cm, depth was 6cm, height is whatever you need. Mind you that I did this after assembling @adventuresincreativesoftwa6283 . So I made measurements to fit to what I had. If you adapt it from scratch you might need slightly more depth to adapt it to Zombicide cards sizes. and mybe stuff like tokens and so on. Mine works fine because of the great original design that is quite sturdy!

My solution to that was to make multiple copies. I also made a variation to fit small euro-size cards, linked in the description. All the best with your own constructions. :-)

Sorry to hear that it's giving you trouble! I'm confident the files are a consistent resolution, but you're right that the print settings will usually shrink it, attempting to fit everything on the page. I assume you've downloaded either the A4 or Letter files, based on your paper size, and that you've already tried "Zoom: 100%" in the print settings. As a work-around, you could try cropping the image itself (in an image editor) by a few mm, to compensate. Also, the 10cm line doesn't need to be perfect. Plus or minus 5 mm should be Ok. Good luck!

This might be obvious but I'm watching late night so my brain currently cannot function: is this portable-friendly if I choose to not glue it and essentially reassemble it wherever I go? Or will it sorta fall apart without gluing? You mentioned that the back plate may come off when testing the assembly before gluing so I'm wondering how this would work.
@adventuresincreativesoftwa6283

Fair question. Foamboard is not very robust, so when transporting these cardholders, I like to put them in a cardboard box. Leaving it unglued isn't really an option. It wouldn't hold together.
