DIY garage storage shelves that are low profile, off the floor and open faced. I don't want my shelves to go from floor to ceiling.
I still want to be able to place floor objects against the wall in this part of my garage. I also want these shelves to be 8 feet
long and open faced. Open faced meaning nothing secured vertically to the front of the shelves that would infringe on the eight
foot shelf length. Load bearing weight capacity was also factored into the design of these shelves as well.

Thanks for the idea on the shelves. I just built 5 of these on one wall in my garage while I'm in isolation. I liked building my brackets this way as it is very sturdy. I already had spare 2x4s so I didn't have to buy anything but a sheet of plywood some more wood screws. Also I like that no supports touch the ground so I easy sweep up the floor without anything in the way. Thank you again for sharing this build!

OSB is amazing, I made an outdoor step(just piece of osb screwed to 2x6 box frame) leading into my shed. It isn't sheltered from the weather in any way...snow, sleet, rain, ice and/or blazing sun. That was 14yrs ago! Its still going strong. Great shelf build, thanks for sharing! 4:38

OMFG - use the speed square as a guide... that just blew my mind! So simple and obvious yet this is the first time I've ever considered doing that. I now feel stupid for years of avoiding my circular saw due to my exceptional ability to not cut a straight line. I know it was just an off-hand thought for you, but thanks anyway you just changed my shop life. 1:27

Stan, I would like to make some shelves like this but 24” deep. I assume I just make adjustments to the lengths. Do you think that will hold 100-200lbs/linear ft. It will span 8’/11’/12’?

I noticed you put your brackets in the corner of your garage. Can you move these out and leave a little extra space into the corner if you're not loading the shelves too heavy?

Awesome stuff! I'm really new to woodworking. I'm going to make shelves like these in my garage for my power tools. I'm wondering why @0:37 you say that gravity is going to be your friend on this one. It looks like the two pieces that make your L are right about the same size. What am I missing?

is there a reason why you didn't make the shelves deeper, like up to the garage door? keep making the great vids!
@simplyeasydiy
@simplyeasydiy 8 жыл бұрын
+James Phelps (jphelps) Various reasons really. Personally I don't like deep shelves. Things get too easily lost behind other things. So I take measurements of the most common items I'm going to store and build accordingly. Also that top shelf is already limited on what I can easily stick up their due to the Garage door rail. Personal choice basically.

Cool project but I would have used metal shelf supports, brackets with a diagonal brace take up a lot of space where you can't put long wooden planks.

At 3:30 what’s the purpose of the piece you added in the front? Not sure it’s supporting anything, is it for looks? I recently completed something like this but may need that 2x2 you added on the back. Again, wanted to know function of the front piece.

 @Stan Sullivan Do you mind explaining how it prevents sagging? I was looking to do something similar, I do basic woodworking projects - but not many "structural" things. Why would that front piece provide extra support if its not anchored to any additional support? Also do you mind sharing that software you were talking about?

Haha. The sound of an impact driver echoing off concrete walls can be very loud yes. Plus one should always adhere to safety precautions that one deems necessary in any situation they are in. Even if those safety precautions seem trivial to others.
