Also, would anyone like plans?
If enough people ask for them, I may create more detailed garden room plans to follow and build your own.
In this video watch as I build my own DIY garden room from start to finish in under 15 minutes. This covers everything from laying the concrete base, building the walls and roof, all the way to finishing of the cladding.
This entire project took me roughly 7 weeks and was full of jobs I have never done before. Due to this, I honestly believe that building a garden room is an achievable goal for any decent DIY’er, as long as you are prepared to do the research and put in the work.
90% of this garden room was built on my own and there were very few jobs where I really needed any help. In fact, I personally believe I could have done 100% without any assistance if I needed to.
I really hope you enjoy the build, and I would love to hear what you think in the comments below.

I built one a year ago now and I'm telling you guys it's one of the best things I've done , sometimes men just need to have a beer , listen to some music or just quiet time by them selves. And other times have friends and family round,, mine has already given me great memories.. Just pick up the shovel and do it...

No problem@@thediyfix . Can i ask a quick question. I'm about to do a 14ft by 14ft garden office and i was wondering if you can settle an issue i've been having. i was wanting to do a cement base but then the cost of it seemed way too much so i saw a ton of videos on youtube where the do the formwork and then use compacted stone ( 3/4 shale i think or aggregate) as a shed base. Can you tell me if that is a terrible idea ? do you see any issues with using that method instead of just a concrete base? any advice would be awesome.
@thediyfix
@thediyfix 3 ай бұрын
@@jamesmozzy I wouldnt like to advise on that type of base. The truth is I honestly dont know if that would be ok. What I will say is my base cost £383.18. This included ballast, cement, hardcore, hiring a mixer, and buying timber to create the formwork. I mixed it myself and this was far cheaper than having the concrete delivered.

@@thediyfix I was going to say - I was looking at these planters (with wooden slats - really cool design) and they were selling the plans on etsy how to build them - was only a few quid - but if eventually enough people bought them itd defo be worth your while! Anyway - just started going through your playlist - will spend my Sunday evening watching them all....probably wont get round to doing it until the Spring - but I need to get a storage unit done as well in the next couple of weeks before Winter sets in......so will try and copy your techniques - but a lot less elaborate (its just storage!)

Good luck with the build. My room is roughly 2100mm at the back and 2200mm at the front. I have a multi gym that’s around 2050mm and that fits fine. 2200mm won’t fit and 2100 will be tight.

If you can dig down below existing ground level you have a chance. If your roof span is small you can use 4x2 to maximise roof height. Check roofing span tables for CLS timber before you start - it will calculate loading and timber size. My lowest internal height is 2122mm with plasterboard and flooring.

Great video series thanks. Did you use the same nail gun throughout (2nd fix) or did you use something else for the early build?

Hi David, I used a first fix gun for all the early framing work

Great build, I wish i could do it in 15 mins lmao. I'm doing this with my brother and one of my sons, we're waiting for concrete to set, but in the meantime, we're trying to decide if the vapour barrier is needed for my brothers build, as he is using osb on the interior walls, floor and ceiling, so could you or anyone let us know if we do need it, much appreciated.

Hey Tony, good luck with the build. Im honestly not 100% sure about the internal vapour barrier with OSB on inside walls. However, I do feell like its probaly a good idea. Even structural OSB is porous. Also, you will definitely need the external wrap/vapour barrier, otherwise water will seep through the OSB. If it were me I would add an internal vapour barrier, why take the risk? Its cheap and doesnt take long to install. If you dont do it you may end up regretting it

@thediyfix thanks for that, we planned everything else, just unsure of the internal vapour barrier, but we' re still early in the build so a little time to sort it. 😀

Great job, did you fit any ventilation
@thediyfix
@thediyfix Ай бұрын
I didnt add any no. The vapour barrier should stop any moisture entering the roof from the room. Also, there is a gap between the soffit and wall, and the back of the cladding is open due to the battens. So in theory this should provide plenty of ventilation

Looks great. I completed something similar recently and opted for a warm roof (ie deck, insulation, deck, rubber). Yours looks like a cold roof but no air gap above insulation. How does it work? Do you rely on the breathable EPDM?

I’m not 100% sure what you mean Toby. The Edomite rubber roof isn’t breathable I’m relying more on the Vapor barrier to stop any moisture

@@thediyfix I thought you were meant to have a ventilated air gap above the insulation in a cold roof.
