I made a headboard out of shiplap boards. This DIY headboard is especially useful in small rooms since it is secured right to the wall and doesn't take up much room. The shiplap boards are very thin and come in packs that are ready to go. There are really minimal tools and steps to this woodworking project of making a DIY headboard for a small room. It's a very easy woodworking project!

That looks slick, and easy. I just worry that now it'd be weird to NOT have a bed there. It could make for a cool little accent to have by a reading chair or something, though. Either way, nice video, Bruce! You're really milking that trip up to Lakeside for some great content.

I think you might be on to something for an accent for a reading nook. For this room, there was a window on another wall, so this was really the only wall that a bed could go on. It just made sense for this space. Yeah! We knocked out a ton of projects in like 3 days while I was there.

Awesome project and video - I really like the tip about securing the middle of the vertical boarder pieces and then pivoting slightly to get a tight miter...super simple and effective!

Thanks, Ethan! I thought that was a great tip Ryan had. Because you would notice the miter at the top more than if the bottom was slightly off.

Great video Bruce! I like this design, too. I might have to recreate this for our bedroom, too. I'm thinking I may mount the whole thing to a thin sheet of plywood so that I can adjust it on the wall left and right. Because, you know, the bed shifts. ;)

Awesome work and great video! Videos are getting better and better Bruce! I did something similar in a bathroom, but the lady didn’t want me to use a bad nailer so I had to put the adhesive on the board and press it to the wall and hold it for a least 10 minutes.. took forever to do but turned out nice when it was done.

Nice job, Bruce! I always knew those KY guys were a bit backwards but now I know they also like to install their outlets upside down!
@lakesidewoodworksky563
@lakesidewoodworksky563 4 жыл бұрын
Haha...this is actually the way you install them in commercial construction. The theory is that if a plug is slightly pulled away from the outlet and something falls in between then the ground will prevent it from hitting the hot and the common...resulting in a potential fire hazard. Too many years in commercial construction I guess. Haha

Great Video, job well done! To those with OCD, some builders install the outlet upside down to identify the switched wall outlet. (The wall plug that's controlled by the switch on the wall) the only other suggestion I have is that it would have been great if you had a link to the product itself. Thank you.

This is the easiest way I've seen this done so far , did you glue the shiplap before nailing ? It didn't look like it and how long were the nails ? My Brother wants me to do this for him , one more thing , did you use 1 X 4 for the frame?
@BruceAUlrich
@BruceAUlrich 2 жыл бұрын
Hi John...yes, we used some adhesive to stick it to the wall. I think we were using 2" nails. The 1x4 stuff for the frame came in the shiplap kit that we got from Lowe's. Pretty cool.

So today I listened to the new podcast and watched this video. I’m gonna be honest with you, between the mood music, the “this headboard won’t shake”, and the “three at a time” parts, added to Marks cat calls at Drew and his geriatric undressing, I’m a little worried about you fellas. 🤪🤪🤪 Cool little project. How do you like the cordless nailer?
@BruceAUlrich
@BruceAUlrich 4 жыл бұрын
ha ha. Yeah, it can get a little out of hand. That cordless nailer that Milwaukee has is my favorite. I've used a few now, but it just works so well and it is so much quieter than the others I've used. It's pricey though.

Shiplap is upside down. I understand why you did it that way, I think you should have mentioned it. Your outlet is rightside up. Nice. I used to install them that way, I changed 'cause I got tired if customers whining about it. They have gotten stronger tho, I rarely see one busted at the ground hole anymore. Nice job.

So what happends if I I moving or moving to a other house how can I remove
@BruceAUlrich
@BruceAUlrich 3 жыл бұрын
The way I showed doing it, it is semi-permanent. However, you could easily mount a thin piece of 1/2" plywood to the wall into the studs, and then put the shiplap boards onto that plywood, covering the screws. Then, if you ever needed to move, you could get it off of there without tearing up the wall.
