How do you measure the curve for the waistline? Whenever I try to do this the waist doesn't stretch enough or it's uneven. Since the blog link doesn't work and I don't have experience free handing patterns

Yes, sorry about that! I closed my blog a few years ago. I traced my own skirt to create a template aka pattern. You must fold your fabric on the bias for the waist and then you will get much more leeway for fit!
