Don't let the idea of DIY Hot tub plumbing get you down. We can help with this Hot Tub plumbing guide. Don't let plumbing be the reason you dont build your own DIY Hot Tub! In this video, i'll explain everything you need to know about plumbing your own DIY Hot Tub. The plumbing used in a DIY Hot Tub is not as complicated as you think.
After the physical integrity of the hot tub structure, the plumbing is probably the next most import part. After all, without the plumbing, you don’t have a DIY hot tub.
As an overview, the concept of a hot tub is pretty simple. Tub is full of water. Water is flowing through the skimmer at the top and through the drains (drawn in by the pump inlet) at the bottom. Water flows from skimmer and drains into the filter, from the filter into the heater.
From the heater into the pump and from the pump out into the jets. The plumbing concept is basic right? Correct, it is not a difficult concept. However, there are a few challenges to get to this point.

Hi, great guides thank you. I've built my own cinderblock (circular) tub. My question is, when I drill holes for the outlet/inlets through the blocks how do I seal these holes from water loss? (Im not having any jets, just a heated tub/tiny pool so only three holes) Thank you.
@Buildahottub
@Buildahottub Жыл бұрын
Hi Christian, normally, you would use a mortar mix around the holes to fill any big gaps, then some kind of epoxy putty to make sure it is totally sealed, before you have tile adhesive and grout to finish things off. Hope that helps - Andi

Okay, I have watched your videos and still have a question. I’m adding a blower to my cold plunge for circulation. It’s a tight fit and my intentions are to run the blower (dry no glue) above the waterline within the cabinet. Then to the check valve also above the waterline and then dropping below the waterline to the inlet. I don’t plan on creating a loop to prevent water from getting to the blower based on the lack of space . Your thoughts?
@Buildahottub
@Buildahottub 7 ай бұрын
If you are above the water line with the blower and the pipes then you will not need a hartford loop, the check valve will be enough. Even if the pipes are below, if you position the blower iteself above you will not have an issue - hope that helps - Andi

@@Buildahottub It worked, thank you. I ended up adding a valve. The pressure was crazy with only 1 outlet. The distributor suggested it as long as it still has the ability to discharge. Thanks again..

Very informative! Will it be possible to install spa jets on a 300gal stock tank? I’m thinking of building wood fired hot tub temporarily while we’re building our house. And a jet will be amazing addition after a long day of construction. Thanks!

@@Buildahottub Oh wow! I’ve seen the video and it is explained well. Will the 240v blower works on a generator? As we don’t have electricity hook up in the property yet. Thanks so much!!

I guess if you are generating 240V then it will, dont see why not - they are usually 5A or less to give you an idea on the current draw. Hope that helps

American living in Croatia. I've got a pretty large concrete hot tub, 4 meters by 1.5 meters but the contractors just installed a normal pump for the jets, so no bubbles. Is it possible for me to email a videotape of the situation and see how I could add a air blower to it to add some bubbles, and also it's heated via a standard electric heater that just just consumes electricity like crazy so I'd like to find a more efficient way to heat it. Thank you

@Buildahottub
@Buildahottub 4 ай бұрын
It plugs into the spa pack, but you have to have air pipes in your system that connect to jet bodies with both air and water lines - hope that helps - Andi

Great Video. Could I possibly bend your ear on a hot tub design issue. A friend of mine has a large Octagon concrete hot tub formed. The guy who poured the concrete and set up the form didn’t set the pipes for the jets. I’ve drilled the holes with a specialist bit of equipment in 52mm for the 1.5inch pool pipe. The sticking point is my friend wants (me plumber) no air blower but just four jets in one location. Can you get jets for 1.5 inch pipe? Many thanks Tom
@Buildahottub
@Buildahottub 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom, thanks for the message. The cocnrete gunite bodies are 2" water and 1.5" air. Also, due to the way that they work, it is a 2.5"/73mm pipe (US Spec, not compatible with UK 2.5" which is 75mm) is what goes through the wall. I am not aware of any way of making these fit a 1.5" just because of the way they are put toghether. I have a post here that you can read more about the assembly - buildahottub.com/the-ultimate-guide-to-gunite-jet-body-installation/ I think you are going to have no other optionb but to drill a bigger hole and use the regular sized gunites. If you are not using the air line, you can just cap off the 1.5" on each side of the gunite. The water jet will of course be weaker without the air line. A 1.5" SPG Plug will do it otherwise its a short piece of 1.5" pipe and a 1.5" socket cap. - get in touch via email andi at build a hot tub dot com if you need any parts, I have what you need in stock. Cheers and thanks for the comment.

Hi Thanks for your message. Very helpful indeed. I think this confirms many hours of head scratching on my friends parts. So with reference to this American size difference.. Is this just on the gunite body? In which case is there an adaptor. I’m sure he is more than willing to buy parts from someone who’s got the knowledge. Can you supply the larger American pipe? Many thanks Tom

I have an I ground hot tub that has a heater that bangs on and off (or really the filter and element lights flick on and off). So it is not heating as I turned the heater off because I didn’t think the banging was good. Also when the jets/blower is turned on it shuts the pump off. Can you help?
@Buildahottub
@Buildahottub Жыл бұрын
Hi There, yes, that doesnt sound good at all. Could be an electrical supply issue and there is not enough current is my initial thought - but the banging is odd. To have a heater and pump that are bad at the same time is a little strange. Send me over a video and I will take a look for you and see if I can suggest anything - andi {a.t} buildahottub.com

@@Buildahottub I'm in Thailand, can you direct me to a local supplier please, or provide me with the manufacturer's details of pump, blower and non-return valve, such that I can search the local marketplace. Thanks. I'm building on the edge of a natural swimming lake, in a hot climate, and will not need the heater or the filter, as the spa area is not isolated from the lake which has a comprehensive natural filtration system. Would it be possible to integrate the spa delivery system into the air lift / bubble pump system (see David Pagan Butler system) ?
