DIY: How to Bleach Denim

Hey everyone! I recently wanted to brighten an old jean jacket I had so I decided to make a video showing the steps and things you need to do to bleach and brighten denim! This DIY is very easy and inexpensive to do! I hope this video helps and hope you enjoy it! xoxo
Also I am in the process of moving so that is why I don't have my usual background.

also, for people who don't like the bleach smell that won't go away after they bleach their denim: soak it in peroxide. it neutralizes the smell for the most part and is super cheap. =)

It's 1 cup of peroxide with 1 gallon of water. Then let it soak for at least 20 minutes. It'll neutralize the bleaching process, not just the smell.

Hey! I know this is from a long time ago but i just wanted to say thank you 🥺🥺 this worked like a charm! I accidentally bought a dark denim from online and i bleached and followed all the instructions here in this vid and my jacket came out perfect. Thank you will def do some jeans next time ❤️✨ For anyone who wonders: i used oxygen based bleach so its not that strong and i only left it on the bucket for an hour, the measurement i use for the bleach was just two small cups in a bucketful of warm water, good luck! 🥰🥰

That bucket holds up to 3 gallons of water and she used about 3-4 cups of bleach. If you make the math depending on your bucket size, you’ll be able to do right ig :)

she used 1/4 bottle in a bucket of water. the measurement isnt critical. you can control the bleaching effect by how long you leave the denim in the bleach.

Hi, this looks great! I've been meaning to do this to a dark rinse jacket. Instead of putting it in the washing machine after, would it still be OK if I hand-washed it instead?

Before doing this I suggest you to try but in small patch of the denim and if it turns yellow then stop but if is light washed continue.

And also if you aren't doing a complete bleach, for example only doing the seams, it works well with cotton swabs, I think.

Of all the videos I found this one was by far the best. I'm going to try it tomorrow on a jacket I got from Levi's. The darker jacket was like 80 percent off (I got it for about 25 bucks) compared to the same jacket that was lighter that was not on sale and was about 150 dollars. If this works it would have saved me a grip of money! Thanks!

so I made a skirt, but I thought the denim was to dark do I bleached it and it was all patchy and parts turned white so I went to buy dye and I meant to dye it only a little, but it turned dark af Fml. that's why I'm here now .-.

how do I ensure that everything is evenly faded. I tried it with one pair of jeans but it ended up having a flowery pattern from the bleach of different shades of denim

fill your bathtub with around 5 inches of water and then like 3-4 cups of bleach, dampen the jeans first with cold water and then lay them as straight as possible in the bathtub, check after 30 minutes if it's the color you wanted and if not leave it for longer, don't leave it for more than 8 hours, if after 8 hours it's not where you want it to be take it out, wash it without detergent and try again the next day

torterolion it turns yellow from washing with detergent afterwards and using a hot dryer. You’re supposed to wash no detergent and air dry

I did this to my clothes when I was a teenager and I often would use too much bleach and it would eat away at the cotton and holes would form over time. Sometimes that looked cool but also kinda looked rubbish.

I did the same and when I took it out of the bleach some spots were darker than others and I don't know if washing it would even if, or if the issue is that the excess dye is only in some spots but what do I do to make it even

Worst Of All Time WOAT ok I'm really late and you've probably fixed it by now but I'd suggest dabbing with a sponge some bleach on the darker spots, leave it for a bit then wash it

If you have a tub use that and lay the jacket inside of the tub it allows for more surface area so less chance of uneven bleaching
