In this video I share how I built my own infrared sauna and how you can do the same!
I use my sauna for detoxing from Lyme disease, but they are great for helping with sleep, muscle recovery, detox, and so much more. If you do decide to make one, please share it with me or tag me on IG because I would love to see. 🎉

items needed :
tent - amzn.to/2FIiPqA ** I ordered the 60 x 32 x 80
bulbs - amzn.to/2FU6wYb ** 1 pack comes with 4
clamps - amzn.to/2S2kQAt **make sure you order 4
shoe rack - amzn.to/3cn0yL6 **this one is a snug fit in the tent I used (60x32x80) but it slides around the poles nicely and holds well. If you get a smaller tent, you will need to size down your shoe rack
stool - www.ikea.com/us/en/p/skogsta-... **I used one that I had but this is comparable
small goggles - amzn.to/3hTKJgb **these have much tinier eye holes and can be hard to see through
larger goggles - creatrixsolutions.com/nir-sau... **much more comfortable but more expensive
sauna cap - creatrixsolutions.com/near-in...
towel - www.nomadix.co/collections/ho... ** this was a lovely gift from a friend. Very absorbent and made with post-consumer recycled plastic bottles
extension cord - amzn.to/2FU48jL **any will work
*at time of publishing
total cost for sauna: $334.93
total cost for everything on list: $455.93

Cool. I too have these light bulbs. But word of caution for anyone: Do NOT put too close to skin! . I had these around 10-15cm away from my body. Where I held it for longer around 10 minutes , I have two visible melanoma spots pop up, and some really tiny ones like spec of dust in the exact places!. Its not coincidence. Imho Its not 100% safe or without risk. In this case with reflectors to spread/even out the beams and you're at a distance far enough I believe its much safer. Just don't "roast" yourselves!. Good health to all!

Thanks for the video. I'm in the same boat that I don't want to spend 3-4k for a sauna. I was going to get one for about $1200, but realized they might not be all that. Then I figured I could build my own, so I came looking for videos. Yours is the first one I came across. I'm still learning about Near Infrared vs Far Infrared, so not sure which bulbs I'll buy. Your video made me realize that it's not that difficult to simply build my own. Thanks and good luck with your health.

Thanks for taking the time to watch :) Hope it helped make the idea of making one more manageable! I love the bulbs that I linked in the description and haven't had an issue in the 6 months using them. They produce NIR and red light so I have found them helpful on both the deep detox level (NIR) and for healing some scarring I have (the red light). Hope that helps!

I'm still learning and have heard that far infrared is key because it reaches into the tissues to stimulate detox/repair/soothing there, which near does not reach. Supposedly that's what sets infrared apart from dry and steam saunas. Maybe I'm misinformed. Advise is welcomed.

Maybe the materials used to make the tent? I just purchased and assembled this grow tent in my living room and when I stand inside, it has a chemical smell. I just found out from someone that sells similar saunas online, that mylar gives off toxic fumes when it heats up. I currently have a heater set up in my grow tent hoping the heat will force the mylar to outgas completely before I use it as a sauna. It would defeat the purpose if we are getting poisoned when we are trying to improve our health!

How hot does it get with just the four lights? And what's the ambient temperature? Those bulbs create heat by being hot. There's little far infrared wavelengths, so they don't actually heat you and not the air. However, the light itself is healing, so you may find the lamps are their own thing, even if you don't sweat buckets.

Hi Ann! I am not sure the exact temp with the 4 bulbs but, I SWEAT. Like full on dripping hah. These bulbs are NIR bulbs (not far/LED) so they become very hot and produce healing wavelengths and not just red light. It does not get uncomfortably hot in the tent and I really do feel like I sweat from the inside out. Wish I could give a more accurate answer... but I do know it has helped my detox tremendously and has the red light has also improved the scarring I have. I'm not sure how to accurately test the temp inside the tent... Thoughts?

Thanks for the great video! A couple of questions from someone who is just learning about this form of therapy... How hot does your sauna tent get with those bulbs? Do you feel like that was enough bulbs? How long do you stay in the tent and do you feel like this therapy is giving you the benefits associated with traditional sauna's?

Also eager to know what temperatures you were able to achieve with this setup? :)
@fullymarissa4236
@fullymarissa4236 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sandy! Thank you for your questions! 1) I am not really sure on an exact temp but based on being in other sauna's I'd say that it gets around 120/130F. I like to plug it in 5-10 mins before getting in which gets it up to a temp that causes me to get a good sweat going after about 10 mins. 2) I stay in around 20 mins. If I am especially stagnant, then I will stay in up to 30, but I have never needed longer! My rule of thumb is to stay in about 10 mins after I really start sweating, which, for me, is around 20 mins. 3) There are definitely enough bulbs! I cannot imagine having or needing more than the 4, especially if you give them the time to warm up. 4) This, for me, is the BEST form of detox I have and I have never said that about a traditional sauna. It is a much deeper detox compared to traditional saunas. Those saunas work by heating up the air around you so it's a very surface level sweat. NIR saunas like this, penetrate deeply into your cells so you are truly detoxing from the inside out. I hope that helps!!

Thank you Marissa ! such a helpful video and I am inspired to make my own ! I have however, come across such comments by a DR L Wilson who appears to a sauna specialist saying that Rubylux bulbs and Therabulbs are best avoided. He seems to recommend only a handful of companies who make bespoke and very expensive saunas. do you know why this might be ? Are there any issues with these bulbs e.g not as effective as others/give off toxins or EMF ? Could this just be a money making scheme by only endorsing a few providers ?
@fullymarissa4236
@fullymarissa4236 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lola! So sorry for my late response -- I haven't been able to get into my account 😅Not sure if you have received answers but here are my thoughts. I have not come across any issues in my personal experience or in talking to those with have used these types of bulbs. Since making this video, they are still going strong and I have been loving the sauna. At the end of the day, NIR is NIR so I am not sure what the reason would be to avoid certain bulbs besides avoiding ones that are poorly made - which I haven't found to be the case here. I am inclined to agree that it is a money making scheme since no one (as far as I know) owns the tech to NIR so I would imagine they'd need to find other ways to differentiate their product and make a profit. I personally like these as they are red light & NIR so they produce the near infrared light to help detox and red light which helps with scarring on my skin. I will do more research and update if I ever come across anything that indicates otherwise! I hope that helps!!

I have been searching out others ideas to collaborate with my own for a build of this type as the market for such things is disgusting, and a shameful sleazy business model by the leaders out there today. The extra tips like the oils, and dry brush were great as well. I would also suggest using a gung fu iron whisk for blood flow and can make your own like I did. No doctors have determined what it is but my one natural path believes it might be heavy metal toxicity as I have many tattoos and work in a steel industry. I ordered a 60 by 60 by 80 tent as I wanted it a bit larger but I didn’t consider the temperature reaching the level it needs to be effective. So the question is I have the same 4 lights as yours, do you think the 60 by 60 would be too large or should I have went the 60 by 30? Thanks!

Hello… do you find your skin ‘ burns’ from the four bulbs? My husband built me a panel of 4-philips 250W bulbs spaced as yours is. It’s in a tiny bathroom- I’m 18 inches away but can’t go back any further really. I don’t have insulation panels yet which I may try to do bec I don’t sweat in there, I just get the red light therapy. So… what is wattage of your bulbs? And do you find your skin burns?🤔Mine gets very hot snd pink patches in some areas . I heard RLT does not harm skin or cause cancer but the burning has me concerned 🤔 Maybe I’ll try less wattage and look for a tiny insulated tent🤔 Thanks for any more Info

@@tenazrael thanks !! I’ll definitely look her up. I do use olive oil, tahini sesame seed oil etc🤔 However… I had a horrible accident with my bulbs… after a session last month ( after using for Two months and feeling/seeing benefits!!!) I stood up turned around and one bulb exploded on back of my legs😣 it could have been my face n neck n chest 😣 we hadn’t put the “cages “ around them yet although the type I would have got were similar to yours and would not have spared me either, those are just for not getting too close…more visual reminder…there are other “cages” that protect more, tiny openings, and would have spared me the “hot ‘shrapnel’ glass”😣 This was a horrid FREAK accident .., I’m still getting all wounds tended too every other day at ER clinic. The only explanation is that before I turned it off the corner of a wet towel might have brushed over it😣… I just can’t recall- was a bit traumatizing , or I didn’t screw it in tight enough when I changed bulbs.. I heard it could overheat that way snd possibly blow😕though they say very rare. I researched extensively with Dr Wilson etc Needless to say… I’m too fearful now😕to continue . Be careful. Maybe get better cages for protection. I miss it terribly just too risky 😕 Now I may do steam saunas for detox and look into the LED panels🤔For photobiomodulation🤔though those are ridiculously expensive 😣who knows if I’ll be able Anyway just sharing experience….warning others of possibility

I've tried with the grow tent and there is a bad smell. Im not sure this is a good option. probably still better with wood. Anyone else tried it?

Hi Simon! I didn't note in this video but have let people know since -- I let mine air out for a couple days once assembled and the smell went away! Off-gassing is definitely a good idea, especially if sensitive. Wish I had a better alternative but I hope this helps!

@@fullymarissa4236 Maybe if I put an air purifier might work? I'm not sure. I will test it. Thanks

@@2393034 Oh that could definitely be an option! If you live in a warm/non windy area, you could put it on your deck or if you have one, your garage. Let me know how the air purifier works out!

Wow! This seems like a domestic fire waiting to happen... those lamps are not thermally protected. So you have four ignition sources inside a flammable tent. Not good.
