Make a cyclone dust collector!
Cyclone dust collector is a device that improves filter life of vacuum cleaner by using the principle of centrifugal separation.
In this time I was able to make a dust collector which can be assembled cheaply and easily by using a pail can.

サイクロン集塵機の原理は、円筒(円錐)上部からの回転する気流を起こし、粉塵はそれに乗り円筒(円錐)の壁に衝突することで運動能力を失い、落下する方向に向うことを狙ったものです。　それを最大限利用しようとすると、お気付きの通り円筒より円錐にして、衝突機会を増やした方が効率は良いのでしょうね。円錐化はやってみないと判りませんが、吸入口のガードに使われたパンチングボードを円錐状にして、吸入口の下辺より下方より内径を絞り設置すれば、案外細かな粉体も軽減出来るかもしれませんね。　自分は、この動画に行き着く前に既製部品として購入したので試しませんが、パンチ穴を抜けた粉体は渦の気流に乗り概ね落下に向かうでしょうから、掃除機側に再上昇する量を削減できるかもしれません。　気流の強さに見合う円筒の径、排気口の高さの調整が、作成された集塵装置では可能に見えます。粉体をもっと捕りたければ、静電気で集塵することになるでしょうが、これならまだ色々と工夫出来そうですね。素晴らしい。

自分も一作目はコレと同じような集塵機を作りました。二作目は吸引口を側面に穴を開けるのが大変だったので上部の側面に近い所に穴を開けてエルボーで内部で曲げました。加工が楽で、強度も増した割には集塵能力の低下は起きず、調子が良いです。細かいホコリはどうしても掃除機側のフィルターに付着するのでタンクが一杯になったら一緒に掃除してます。

I pay attention to 5 gallon buckets (that's supposed to be funny though true) but have never seen one with a snap-ring lid here in the US mountain west. Not only do you get beautiful buckets where you are, we need your style of workman's coats, too. Oh, and the perforated metal cylinder is an obvious improvement to the double-plastic-bucket cyclones I've built. Thumbs up!

He edited something out @7:51 dont blink or you'll miss it. I wonder why he didnt let it all play through like the rest of the video was.not saying it wont or doesnt work cuz I'm sure it does but maybe not as good as he showed cuz why the pause/edit at 7:51? Nevertheless ths mans a genius look at all the hand made stuff in his shop I'm just saying why the pause not being a troll but just wondering..and dont get the "dust separator from rockler I did and it sucks it tips over and doesnt perform well after 15% of bucket is filled but they say the fill line is at 70% totally not true

昔、サイクロンの設計してましたが、かなりキレイに分離できてると思います。微粉まで分離しようと思うと、かなり高速で回転させないといけませんね。

コメントありがとうございます。粉塵の分離はダイソンにならって直径４cm程度の円錐を10コ～１５コ程度並列にして試してみようかと思っています。何か進展がありましたら、動画で公開しようと思います。

Indeed powder can't be separated but the bag inside the can of the original vacuum can be during a very long time!!!

Great job, very good workmanship, but the cut at 8:27 is visible. I would appreciate the sincerity in presenting the relevant effectiveness, 100% is not technically possible. But otherwise as I say great processing, technical and dynamic. I myself have a very similar, almost identical device. Did you use wind simulations or did you hit it blind? Once again, great job.

You'd probably have to use a water bubbler to clear the powder. Be caerful, though, because when suspended in air, it's explosive!

Hi- On your website you mention using triac dimmer to lower vacuum power by 50%. I suppose you cacuum is 120 Volts. What was the initial vacuum amps and HP ? Thank you

I just made this and can confirm it works as shown. I had a tiny amount of dust in my vacuum bin but I wasn't as neat with my build. I was also using plastic containers. I'm sure that blip in the video was just an editing error

初めまして。サイクロン式集塵機を作りたいと思っていたので、大変参考になりました。早速ですが、内部にパンチングメタルの遮蔽筒を付けられてますが、これは穴あきである必要があるのでしょうか？同様に内部の遮蔽筒を取り付けている海外の方の動画を見たことがありますが、穴のない遮蔽筒だったと思います。穴があると、そこからいくらかのゴミが本体に入りそうなのですが･･･。重箱の隅を突くようで申し訳ないです。他の動画も大変丁寧に作られていて勉強になりました。登録させて頂きます。ありがとうございました。

書き込んでから気付いたのですが、海外の方の動画では下が筒抜けになってましたね。自作工房さんのは下部は塞いであるのでパンチングメタルという事なのですね。失礼いたしました。どちらが良いかとかは結果オーライだと思われます。

コメントありがとうございます。あの筒がこのサイクロン集塵機のミソです。穴のない筒だと、遠心力の弱くなった筒の底部から空気を吸い上げることになります。一方で、遠心力の強い側面部分から、少しづつ空気を吸い込めば遠心分離の効果を最大に発揮することが出来ます。（実際に性能が向上しました。）これは一般的なサイクロン掃除機に採用されている方式です。詳しくはブログでも説明しているので参考にしてください。

私も、当初この方式は懐疑的でした。なので、１号機は海外でよくあるような筒型にしました。今回は実験的にパンチメタルで作ってみたわけです。もし、もっと良いアイディアがありましたらお知らせください。お待ちしています。

わたしは木や鉄ではなく紙でダイソンの中みたいなのを作っていますよ。結構めんどくさいですが性能はあります。時間があったらやってみるのもありかもしれません

Nice one :). I appreciate your videos a loot. The attention to detail is superb. I wonder if you are interested in building a ~motor-impeller-housing-cone-filter~ sistem with bigger airflow for 80-100 mm piping around your shop. I really look forward on how you would tackle this project overall :D. best regards!
