To everyone who missed it, the point isn’t for him to save that piece of specific wood, and if it was for a structural member it would just get replaced, the point is mildly decorative while also being functional mostly for furniture making where you’re using old reclaimed wood or natural live edge pieces not for deck posts or floor joist.

This wasn’t done very well. The “bow tie” work that is being mimicked here requires more. The pieces put in arent maximized for strength or aesthetics. This process can look amazing. And this is a practice piece I hope.

After watching some of his videos, I think he is not professional carpenter, metalworker etc. I think he is : 1. Some worker apprentice who find out that if he make video about random & questionable metalwork or woodworking technic but in entertainment way, he will make more money. 2. He is a metalwork/ sculpture artist's. So his technic is more in artistic way than usefull. And that's why we must not see his solution as a right way because it's more about artistic. 3. Someone who has a lot of money and time and like to do this thing. So he can buy the tools, but not really know how to use it as proper tools because he never do a real job. It's his hobby

One piece would have been much more stable, so this was far from best solution. Screws through the wood from the upper and lower sides with wood in the middle would also be a possible solution. And the easiest solution, just replace that piece of wood! 😁

@noahaefeli7500

@@steelnail1917 not at all, the grain structure is (exept for the bowtie) wrong aranged and the grain does not run all the way througt, so this would just break imideately, even if the walnut inlay is stronger than the pine. The force on the pine is tangetial wich is stronger, than the radial force wich is acting on the walnut. If he did it with metal inlays, this would be way more stable, and if you have a visible crack, you want open but stabilized and asteticaly, this would be a great method. But you can see, he has some sort of knowledge in woodworking but nothing, that goes below the surface of a DIY person. As a professional, i think its a good looking visible accent you can set on a piece, but in this execution not practical at all

The only one of those that would actually contribute to reinforcement would be the bow ties
