Finishing out the 06+ conversion and MOVE bumper upgrade, I show how to use the OEM fog light switch to run independently from the low and high beams. Easy to go back to stock if you ever change your mind, this is an awesome mod for any offroader vehicle!
Please note that for 2003-2004 pin #17 is a solid blue wire, connect this together to the white with black stripe wire going to pin #16. Again, there is also a red with green stripe wire in the 2003-2004 harness at pin #7, this is NOT the wire you want to connect to.

Hey man! Great vid! I'm working on converting my old foglights to similar ones to what you have in this vid. I have an 04 4runner with a new off-road bumper that are looking for some led fog lights that I want to still use the OEM switch for, so this helped a lot! Question tho: Did you cut and connect old wiring harnesses to the new lighting wires? Also for the 2nd part of this vid where you vampir clipped... Do you still have to mess with the fuse box in order for the fog lights to be on with the highs? Thanks!

Hey thanks, glad the video has helped you out. 1. Yes I cut old fog light wire and ran that as a signal wire to a relay, which then turns on my aftermarket fogs. 2. Honestly I don't remember, you may be able to skip part 1 (fuse box) and just do the vampire clip, but for how easy it was I'd just do both. Super helpful for offroading at night. Good luck!

i have a 3rd gen. If i wanted to just tap into the fog light fuse to use it as a switch for my dimming function on a boost gauge only when the truck is on, could i just bend that portion of the fuse you did and hook up and plug it back in?
@My.Lame.Perspective
@My.Lame.Perspective 5 ай бұрын
That sounds like that would work. Usually when running 3rd party fog lights I just find the wire from the switch, have that feed to a relay that is looking for a signal wire (on/off from the switch) and then the relay will run my fog lights, or in your case your boost gauge. Trial and error may be your best friend on this one since I'm not as familiar with a 3rd gen.

Thanks for commit. they used to work wired new lights using OEM plugs on new lights, still no power to switch OEM switch?
@My.Lame.Perspective
@My.Lame.Perspective Жыл бұрын
Very strange, only thing I can think of is the new lights require more power than the OEM wiring can send. Maybe add a relay in between the OEM switch and new lights? Otherwise I'm not sure since fuses are good.

Installed new fog lamps, used the old light plugs behind bumper. I have no power to the fog Lt. switch all fuses checked and OK, any thoughts on getting voltage to OEM fog Lt. switch?
@My.Lame.Perspective
@My.Lame.Perspective Жыл бұрын
So I had the OEM light switch act as a signal (on/off) for a relay that came with my LEDs. The relay then fed the power to the LEDs. However, your problem is the OEM switch has NO power at all. Fuses are good, so I'd undo any wiring you've done (if any) and get it back to stock, then check wires at both ends (multimeter or light that turns on when circuit is good.) See if someone before you messed with the wiring too, I had that once where someone had messed with factory wiring. Was a nightmare but just trace each wire, even through the firewall if you have to. Good luck!

I got a 2005 Limited 4runner and i have the IG relay on where you put the fuse . any suggestions?
@My.Lame.Perspective
@My.Lame.Perspective Жыл бұрын
I tested a lot of spots and the IG was the only one that worked for me. Since that's not an option with the Limited, I'd check any open spots with a circuit tester and if you can't find any under the hood you may have to find one in your fuse box under the steering wheel. Good Luck!

Maybe i should be checking the wiring Diagrams first before i ask but I don't care about running the fogs without the headlights on but i do care about the fogs turning off when the high beams are used. Can i just perform step two under the sterring column without step one that you did under the hood?
@My.Lame.Perspective
@My.Lame.Perspective 3 ай бұрын
As far as I know yes, that should work.

@@My.Lame.Perspective Thanks for your input. I'm using the high beam switch and fog switch with a Switch Pros which has two trigger points. When the trigger is hot it will turn on whatever outputs you want. So instead of pressing the buttons on the switch pros I can use the OEM stalk to switch two sets of lights. I'll report back after I've connected those two wires under the steering column to confirm. Cheers.

Is the vampire clip just connecting the 2 wires out of the clip?
@My.Lame.Perspective
@My.Lame.Perspective Жыл бұрын
Ya exactly, you could also cut the one wire and splice all 3 ends together, vampire clip or quick splice connector does the same thing.
@SloppyGoat
@SloppyGoat 11 ай бұрын
On my 2006, the fog lights are already independent of the low beams. They only go out when the high beams come on. So, does that mean I only have to do the steering column splice, to make them stay on with the high beams? If I'm not mistaken, one of those relay pins are hot, so you can just wrap or solder a small wire from that one to the one you bent up, and just plug it back in. No need for external power, if you can take it directly from the relay itself.

You mean the running lights/blinkers? Did you figure this out? Because that's something I would love to disable. I don't know why they stay on all the time. I don't really see that on other 4Runners. Was that just 2006, specifically?

What if I don't have the mini tool And i just bent the relay and plugged it in directly What will happen ?
@My.Lame.Perspective
@My.Lame.Perspective Жыл бұрын
I'm not exactly sure, you could do that and it would probably work just fine, but without a fuse in between you run the risk of burning out the relay or the bulbs faster.

No I understand how they work, but they're usually to splice 1 wire to form 2, here it looks like the usually capped end is opened up just to bridge 2 wires. Sorry should have been more clear.

@@bryangarren6709 Oh ya I see what you mean. Ya i've always used them as a T joint, letting one wire run from a to b and just tapping into the middle.

@My.Lame.Perspective
@My.Lame.Perspective Жыл бұрын
It can probably be done in a similar way, but the wire looms are different so the 4th gen 4runner method isn't going to be the exact same. May be easier to run the lights to an independent switch similar to this one: www.amazon.com/WeiSen-Switch-Backlight-Connector-4Runner/dp/B07WDVYCKL/ref=sr_1_4?crid=ZNKPE0XHB79N&keywords=toyota+fog+light+switch&qid=1678458996&sprefix=toyota+fog+light+switc%2Caps%2C218&sr=8-4
