DIY Install of Mirrored Closet Doors

Average Joe's Jim does projects and maintenance at home that even an Average Joe can accomplish. This Episode, Jim and his trusty sidekick Max the husky install new sliding, mirrored, closet doors for his daughter's bedroom. The doors can be purchased at most hardware stores like Lowe's or Home Depot, or any mom and pop door or construction supply store. Solid no-nonsense video. Helped me understand how to deal with the installing of the door and the mechanisms to adjust it's heights and into the guide tracks. I just replaced carpets to hard vinyl flooring and need to install the tracks on the floor back. Do you think I could just screw it in without installing/sticking a plank of wood on to the floor first? I'm wondering if drilling into just vinyl floor of 7mm thickness with the underpad, is a good idea.

Thank you for the nice compliment. As far as the vinyl goes, you are probably going to have to drill through the vinyl and into your concrete because the vinyl is just too thin. Here’s a video I found that might help: pin.it/5sBZOHG

Great job BTW I was wondering if you could help me out with something I have mirror closet doors but they have seem to detached from the frame of the mirror can they be connected or would I need to buy new ones thank you an advance

I’m not sure about that. If the mirrors have detached from the frames, you may have to just get new doors as trying to get the mirrors back into the frames (I’m assuming the frames are bent) could cause you to crack or break the mirrors which could end in an injury to you. If the doors are just off track, you just might need to do a little adjustment with the wheels to get them back in track and running smoothly again. Good luck! And thanks for watching!

What kind of blades did you use?

I used metal cutting blades. I bought a set at Lowe’s that came with several different blades, some wood cutting, some metal cutting. You could also just use a hacksaw with a metal cutting blade as well.

is this manageable for a 14 year old to do? i have wood floors and my dad is scared of me drilling into them

The doors can be heavy, and anytime you are working with a mirrored door, you risk breaking it. It’s not really something I would suggest a 14 year old tackle alone. As far as drilling into the wood floors, there are other types of closet doors that are similar but actually hang down from the top bracket of the closet and not requiring anything to be mounted to the floor. Is the gap normal between the doors ,mine came out the same way?

If you mean, is there a gap when the doors are closed then, no, that could mean your opening is wider than the doors are made for. But between the doors, yes there will be a little gap so they can slide by each other without touching.

@@richardresendez2325 ya, there will be a bit of a gap between them again to allow them to pass next to each other. I’ve had other manufacturers and models of doors that had a smaller gap, but for these ones, the price was right and are still holding up.
