This weeks video is all about how to make your own kimono. It's super easy and a kimono is really fun piece to have in your wardrobe. When we asked in our previous sewing video what you guys would like to see us sew, a few of you asked for kimonos, so here it is. Make sure you tweet us if you end up making one :D

Great video, it really helped me understand the shape of a kimono:) I would like to give you a quick tip; press your french seams open, do some extra trimming, then turn them en then press them flat before sewing them close, you'll be able to trim them a lot smaller like this because all the fabric is straightened.

The back of my kimono where the middle join meets the top looks bad and has a gather. I don't know how to rectify for next time. Any suggestions on how to get a nice neat join?

im wondering about the collar, from up to down how do you sew it and is there any details on cutting it? shapes?
@polae5975
@polae5975 3 жыл бұрын
I think what they do is just keep the strait cut down the middle and when they fold the seam in twice to hide it and sew it down, it naturally makes a bit of an opening, though I imagine the hem around the neck is a bit awkward since it just doubles back on itself.

Awesome video, I'm definitely going to make one! I have a question about the front cut though... do you just cut a straight line in the middle, going from the top to the bottom, or do you need to do something else? ___________ __________ __________________ | | | | | | |__________ | ________| | | | | | | | | | | | | |_______|__________ |
@EllenandTara
@EllenandTara 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Marina, it's easiest if you cut from the bottom of where you've drawn the line, to the top of the kimono where the fold is (this cut only goes through the top layer of fabric). Hope this helps! - Tara :)

I was hoping to find a video about making a real kimono. Very sorry, but this is not a kimono. At best, it's more like a yukata because it doesn't have the long hanging sleeves that kimonos have. There's also no belt (obi) to keep it closed.
