the little gap in your cap, run the screw in then back it out and run it in again and it will pull tight. the first time you run the screw in it tries to jack the two pieces apart since the screw has threads all the way up.

Great bed plans. I used yours and the other two plans and made a combination of all three. Turned out really well and I ended up measuring everything correctly! Making a router template for the recessed bed rail hardware made things much easier in the long run.

Yay! I'm happy to hear you came up with your own version that works for you! I don't have a router but that sounds like a good way to do it ... by hand was NOT fun!

Love the idea of the Tea and Vinegar stain. Never knew that you could do that. I am making a bed like this soon and the Joinery is where I am having the biggest stumbling block in my decisions. Thank you for making this video ! The bed looks fantastic!!

Thank you, Ben! There are a lot of decisions to make with this build. I spent a lot of time checking out how others did it before and during the process. We love the way it turned out! Have fun with your build!

Bridget, what stain colour/brand did you use ?
@BridgetJo
@BridgetJo 2 жыл бұрын
@@tylerbailey4257 I used a homemade wood stain (started with tea and then vinegar that had soaked with steel wool for 24 hours). You can read more about it here: sunshineandrainydays.com/make-wood-stain/

That is a very nice bed. When it's all set up in your room, it looks better than Ethan Allen. The tea and vinegar stain looks great. Good job!

That's a beautiful build! I'll be starting a very similar project soon, but will be going with the farmhouse white with espresso stain accents. Your video has given me some better ideas on how to go about finishing my own build. Thank you!

Nice work! I just built a similar queen size bed, but used non-mortise hardware. It's worth looking into for future projects.
@BridgetJo
@BridgetJo 4 жыл бұрын
I agree! Since this King Size Bed, I built a twin size with non-mortise hardware and it was a breeze!

Pocket holes aren’t really meant to be used for any load bearing applications. I am finishing a similar design for my son at the moment. My legs have a mortise and tenon 1 1/2” deep into the leg. My side rails are also similar, I stood the blocks up because of the wear strength of the end grain. Anyway, great job for your first project! Looks very nice!

Lol! If you’re referring to the number of mattress supports, we have a Naturopedic mattress which requires that many. The thing is super heavy. My husband is a hero though!

Great bed! Love the break down rail connection hardware. I was advised to do the same by a friend. However, he advised the non-mortise version so that I don't get into the issues of the mortise. I do wish the audio on your video was better. It was hard for me to understand what you were saying.

With the rest of the slats in place it will be plenty sturdy. Another option is using joists. Attach joists to side rails. Dont attach slats to joists for easy assemble/disassemble. As for a hardware cover up I suggest glue and Brad nails when making the headers for the slats. I also made pocket holes to attach my head and foot posts like. Its sleaker than carriage bolts through the side. Awesome job. Keep it up. Its so rewarding to make your own furniture. Im almost complete with having all store bought furniture out of my house. Bedrooms are all that remain.

Thank you for sharing your video! We plan to build a similar king bed this summer. We too want to use bed rail brackets for easy assembling. I found another type of brackets called surface mount brackets, which I thought might be easy to use. We will give those a try. In the meantime, do you mind sharing your cut list? Thanks. The bed come out really nice!!
@BridgetJo
@BridgetJo 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Julia! I would love to know how those brackets work out for you! I used the cut list Ed Hart provides here: www.edhart.me/diy-farmhouse-bed-king-version/ I actually purchased his plans but the cut list is in the post. You can find more info on how I built the bed here: sunshineandrainydays.com/king-size-farmhouse-bed/ (but there isn't a cut list there). I'm so glad my video was helpful! Have fun with your project!

I would had just screwed the rails in
@BridgetJo
@BridgetJo 3 жыл бұрын
That would definitely be a good way to do it! I wanted to be able to move the bed easily, which is why I chose not to screw the rails to the sideboards. That being said, it’s been a few years and I haven’t needed to move the bed up to this point.

Great job. What type of wood did you purchase? Was it rough or dressed? And did you plane your edges for that softer look? Thanks.
@BridgetJo

The 1 x’s are select white wood and the 2 x’s are rough ... all from Home Depot. I sanded everything but didn’t use a planer!

The 4x4’s are rough, untreated fence posts from Home Depot! I have found the rough cut boards take the vinegar stain much easier!
