DIY Kitchen Island w/ Stained Shou Sugi Ban Tabletop

//Support me on Patreon//: / jonnybuilds In this video I’ll show you how to build a DIY kitchen island on wheels with a stained shou sugi ban tabletop. I needed a kitchen island with storage for all of my mason jars rot was small enough and mobile to fit in my small kitchen. I achieved the shou sugi ban burned wood top with a propane torch. I did a light char, and then added a water based colored stain. The kitchen island has space to store pots and pans, and can also be used as a breakfast nook. That's a really nice finish on the top - I've never seen one like it. I really like the chunky wheels too - so much more practical than little ones.

I love this. I wish I knew how to build this for my art supplies and paint. Buying one is too expensive and having it built is expensive. Maybe one day I will be able to make one of these beautiful kitchen carts. The color is beautiful

I love this! I would just want a bigger overhang or cut out for chair space so this could be use as portable table as well as counter space.

I made one similar to this, but added a full shelf about midway down. I wondered, though why the table top had (3) supporting boards to rest on, but the bottom shelf didn't (which also led me to wonder whether the shelf needed this). I'm now making a smaller, lighter one for my sister, who has a very small space for this, using 1x4's for the most part. Loved the Shou Sugi Ban effect!

Great build, and excellent detail in showing the “how to” for other DIYers. Maybe would have made it just a couple inches wider, and could have accommodated an extra jar per shelf.

Great job, but for my personal taste, I'd tint the base somewhat darker color, and probably would rout tabletop edges. Love this burning magic, and tabletop color choice

Thanks! You could easily add an extra shelf to this. I really like it without, because it makes it really nice to sit at. I use it mainly as my breakfast nook now.
