Thrifted Transformations is a show where I go shopping for outdated and unwanted clothes and give it a new life by transforming it into something new! In this episode I found a matching pants set for $5 and transformed it into a lace-up crop top and comfy flared shorts. Don't forget to like and subscribe for more fashion!
TIME: 2 Days (For me, the sewing was fast but deciding on an idea took the longest!)
DIFFICULTY: Advanced (Involves draping, pattern making, lining, and rolled hem)

Some people in the comments are really trying to come for this girl's neck. I keep seeing "Maybe you should design stuff for someone a bit bigger.", or "The short stuff is a bit tasteless." 1) She already transformed outfits for bigger women on the tv show "The Talk." 2) She's designing stuff for herself and her style. I don't understand why a youtube about a girl making clothes for HERSELF has to be inclusive to all. Just be inspired and create something that fits your taste. Let suh do her.

The swirl to make the ruffle at the bottom of the shirt!! 💕💕💕💕 I'm so happy you showed this! There has been so many times I thought something would be cuter with a ruffle but not enough material left over to make one. Thank you for teaching me something new!!

I love this video! I'm so proud because in the last video I mentioned how I'd prefer seeing you transform clothes that were your own size into other things you could wear, AND YOU DID IT! This makes me glad because people who are very large actually need to keep their dreadfully limited options for thrifted clothing open just so they have something at all to wear. This is very kind and considerate of you to keep their needs in mind, while still giving great sewing ideas and tips!

An option for lining your projects could be using old pillow cases. Look for them while at the thrift stores. Solid colors and soft fabrics will be best choices. Putting in a lining will challenge your sewing skills.
@reeciekins

coolirpa I’m not sure if this is something you do, but Annika Victoria keeps a scrap bin to reduce fabric waste. Maybe that could be a useful way to have more fabric on hand, and a way to challenge your design and sewing skills.

Hey there 🤗 Another way u could make the top is to cut 2 of every piece. Then join 2 tops sewing all around and then turn through. That way it’s fully lined, no see through lining, and no raw edges to stitch under. Also if made in another fabric ( lace for example) you can have 2 tops in one 😃 being it now a fully reversible top 😀

You do a lot of cute transformations , April. I love this one. I think I love it for these 2 reasons, #1 it is white and whiye is my favorite color for clothing. #2 , the top is laced and i absolutely love corsets . I love the vintage clothing from the Victorian period like corseys and well onlu want high top shoes like they wore back then. I have always lived that era ever sinve i can remember, even as a 6 year old. fantastic find , fantastic redo! As always. Great work.

April after being a seamstress for over 50 years i have a suggestion for your issue with the rolled hem. First make sure you have a new needle, second to stabalize your edge sew along where you want your final seam to be with a slightly longer straight stitch. Then when you turn along that row of stitching the grain won't stretch. And your top stitching should be smoother at your regular stitch length. Then everything should be tucked into the rolled hem. You will see stitching barely on the underside. Hope this works for you. Ive done it even on chiffon and bridal tulle. Have a great day.

So I need some advice. I accidentally bought a pair of low rise jeans and wanted to know if there's a way to make them high rise without them looking dodgy af... loved the video!
@Veronensis
@Veronensis 6 жыл бұрын
That will be very difficult to achieve without them looking like maternity clothes. The best way I can think of is to seam rip the waistband off the jeans. Find a fabric that is as close as possible to the original jean fabric (this is really really hard to find! there is almost always a little bit of color difference.) and make a pattern piece for a high waisted waistband, cut that out of the new fabric and sew it on. But it will almost always look a little off i'm afraid. It is of course always easier to reduce the size and shape of clothes than to make them bigger.
@Charoula1608
@Charoula1608 6 жыл бұрын
I have no experience with sewing but I'm gonna agree that it's not gonna be easy to make it look right. Okay, you remove the waistband and add fabric. What is gonna happen to the pockets, fake or not, they will be lower than the waistband which will look weird itself.
@larajost6831
@larajost6831 6 жыл бұрын
You might be able to take off the waistband, then sew in some different fabric, like with a floral print or something, and then sew the waistband back on top? Maybe also put some extra pockets on with the floral fabric so it ties it all together. Just an idea since finding a similar denim fabric seems to be difficult and still the seams would be obvious so why not make it look intentional?
@katarinamotyckova2837

I usually rip the seam of the crotch a bit and then sew it few cm lower and it works well I think.. You will have to resize resize the waist after though, that can be done pretty easily and with several techniques
@jordanlamb8158
@jordanlamb8158 5 жыл бұрын
Seam rip the crotch area of the jeans. Try them on, and Mark the pant leg when the waist hits your desired Level. Sew the pant legs together at that area, creating a new crotch area. Tip: Use jeans that are a bit too long when doing this, since it will also shorten the length of the legs
