A neat addition would be a foot pedal that locks the x-y rails so once you have the part in the right location you can ensure it doesn't move while you push it down into the solder.

Is this notably easier then just placing parts with say, tweezers?

its easier when using both hands to guide the end effector. Where it really shines is the accuracy of placing a part, you can get it right where you want it. It also helps reduce shaking from my hands making it to the part. Also if you use tweezers you have to grab the side of the part, so if parts are close together you can accidentally knock other parts out of alignment when placing the new part because of the added width of the tweezer tips on the part
