DIY Mercruiser Alpha One Gen 1 Lower Unit Removal- Step 1

There are many parts of your outdrive, like the bellows, shift cable, impeller and water pump housing, that need to be regularly serviced. Before you can access any of these parts, you must drain the gear oil and remove the bottom of the outdrive. This video shows this removal and gives exact tool sizes of this process.
Disclaimer: This is a DIY video made by a DIY'r. The steps I did worked for me, but if you aren't confident that you can do this, take it to a qualified technician. I am not an expert and this is for informational use only.

Took mine apart in neutral..could use some insight on realigning it

I did this myself also. Best thing you can do is find forward on the lower before you put it back together, then put your shifter in forward.

in wich position does the handle need to be?

b4 any of this. and full forward. also budge the prop so it doesn't move

Forward. I actually forgot and did it in neutral and was able to get it back together with some instructions from a manual

@gordy Just replaced impeller on alpha 1 gen 1, got the lower unit reconnected, and now it's stuck in forward gear (has been in forward gear since I started the project). Any ideas?

The connection between the shift cable end and the shaft is very fickle. It's really hard to explain. I never did a video for the reassembly because I ran out of time, but it was not easy to line it all up right.

I need help. I replaced the water impeller on my alpha 1 gen 1 now the prop shaft and drive shaft won't mesh. What went wtong

Do you mean it won't go back together, or it won't go back in forward/reverse? If it won't go in gear, you probably took it apart in neutral or reverse. I can send you instructions to realign it

Best thing I can say is to put the shifter in forward and then shift the lower unit to forward. I also did that and that is how I was able to put it back together.
