Hi everyone,
Today, I will be showing you how to make the sunburst headpiece I was wearing in my sun goddess makeup tutorial video - and it’s just in time for Halloween! Hooray! 🎃👻
I hope you guys enjoy this DIY project, I think this headpiece is absolutely stunning! Also, if anyone was wondering this was inspired by the zip tie headpiece Amber Heard wore at the Met Gala. ☀️👼

Halloween Sun Goddess Makeup: • Video
Written list of Materials and Step-by-step Instructions:
What you need - a thin metal headband, zip ties (I used 11 in, 8 in, and 6 in zip ties), a hot glue gun, spray paint, tacky glue, and items to decorate with (I chose glitter, star sequins, and a variety of small beads)
Instructions -
1) Lay the zip ties out around your headband to figure out where you want them to go.
2) Zip the zip ties onto the headband as tightly as possible.
3) Starting at one end of the headband, slide a zip tie to the side, add a small amount of hot glue where the zip tie was previously, and then slide your zip tie back into place. Please be careful not to burn yourself.
4) Repeat step three until all of your zip ties are glued down where you want them.
5) Once your glue is dry, spray paint one side of the headband.
6) Once the one side of the headband is dry, spray paint the other side.
7) Using the tacky glue apply whatever sort of decorations you would like to the zip ties. If you have heavier decorations, keep them towards the bottom of the zip ties to prevent them from bending.
8) Once the decorations have dried, enjoy your headpiece

I got the zip ties from a local hardware store, the headband from Amazon, and everything else from either Michaels or Joann Fabrics.

Thank you for this DIY! for work we have spirit week and one of the themes in October is wear a halo or devil horns. I will be recreating this, maybe even in white! With a silver chrome spray paint and white beads and glitter. Honestly the color choices are endless.

Fascinating! Looks grand yet it's affordable! I'm looking for diy headband for jacket. Usually a drawn character have their jacket collar raised up and stiff. Instead i found this quite an eye catching fashion item. Since I'm a guy, this could be a fantastic desk decór too!

I would think wood skewers would work. You may need to cut and sand them though depending on what length you wanted. 🤔

Great video! Did you only hotglue the two ends or did you glue one zip by one? Cause I can't slide them all off again 🤔

Thank you! So, I zipped the ties onto the headband as tightly as possible. Then I slid them them all over a bit towards one side. I then went to the other side, put a dot of glue where I wanted the tie to be, and slid the tie back in place. I repeated this for each tie until they were all glued down. Hope this makes sense, if you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask! 😊

Mine don’t flop over or anything like that. I wouldn’t glue anything particularly large or heavy onto them though. If you’re really worried about it, you can probably use wooden skewers instead.

How sturdy is it? I need to make one for our outdoor Shakespeare play, but I'm worried it's gonna wave around and look flimsy when the performer is walking?

I would say it’s fairly sturdy and wouldn’t really wave around while walking. If you’re worried about it, you could probably glue wire behind the zip ties and spray paint them to add stability, or use wood skewers instead.

Does the headband have to be metal? Is there a difference if you use a plastic one?

I think it would be fine to use a plastic headband as long as it is thin and fits well. Although, I would switch out the hot glue for Krazy Glue or something similar. The hot glue might melt the plastic headband. Good luck! 😊👍🏼

Thank you! With the length of zip ties I used, it has no problem holding itself up, like it doesn’t lean or fall over to one side. However, I would not recommend putting any heavy crystals, beads, etc. towards the ends of any of the zip ties. They would definitely bend over if you did that. Hope that helps you. 😊

Of course you could, I don’t see why not! I think that would look amazing! ✨ However, if they are larger/heavier I would make sure to keep them towards the base of the zip ties. Otherwise, they may end up being too top heavy and bending a bit. If you are really set on having larger/heavier rhinestones at the top though, maybe use wood skewers instead of zip ties.

I used hot glue, I don’t know which brand though. I sort of destroyed the original packaging the glue came in haha. 😆

The zip ties aren’t flimsy? I feel with the length they would be bending all over the place as skewers wouldn’t.

I thought the same thing before I made this, but the zip ties on mine stay up perfectly fine. Just make sure to zip them on as tightly as possible, and secure them with hot glue. I would also avoid putting any sort of heavy embellishments towards the tops of the zip ties. If you want to see the headpiece on, check out the makeup video linked at the end (the sun goddess makeup one). Skewers would also be a great alternative though if wanted to swap the zip ties out! 😊

They are zip ties, you should be able to pick them up at a hardware store or order them off of Amazon. 😊

You should be able to find everything, except the zip ties, at a craft store like Michaels or Joann. You probably need to go somewhere like Home Depot or Lowe’s to find the zip ties. There is of course always Amazon haha.
