Sorry, I'm French and my comment is translated from French to English by Google which at times translates very badly ... So sorry if I sometimes feel like saying things that do not make sense. To come to the subject, I think that what makes you spend so much time on a single chicken is the time you lose because you do not take away the feathers ... or rather because you remove them with a knife ... By removing her skin too (goodbye crisp chicken ...) When I was a child, I was in charge of removing the feathers these days ... To do it (by holding it by the legs) we plunged several times the chicken (once dead) in a big pot of boiling water, then we shook him (so that I did not burn myself by taking him on me) and I was handed it to him so that I removed the feathers ... And I arrived there easily and that from the age of 6 years because I had that to shoot the feathers, they came immediately and easily.

My mom and I processed several roosters last year and we also used the milk jug kill cones, they are so wonderful. I also am on the band wagon of scalding 30 to 45 seconds, and just straight plucking them. I bought an infrared hotplate and start water boiling on the stove. I used the turkey fryer vat so we could just hold the feet and fully submerge them. We "swished" the rooster in the water to get the heat to the skin and they plucked beautifully. Awesome job skinning your bird, the biggest advantage, no pen feathers when they are skinned!

thank you for blanking out the screen at the cull. I am always curious about stuff like this. Hell I even watched a publicly released live autopsy, but watching something happen to something that is ALIVE is just out of my comfort zone. Keep up the good work Beu.

That's done with a chopping block, an axe, a gut bucket, a galvanized wash tub full of boiling hot water, _(Not that cold tap water that's full of who knows what kind of microbes!)_ and someplace to throw the *thoroughly* plucked feathers !!! _(Pluck Before Gutting.)_

Nice. It's definitely easier to remove the feathers first. Grab the legs when you remove it from the cone and take it directly to a vat of boiling water. Plunge it several times, then the feathers should just easily pull off. Then you can butcher very easily with the skin intact for more flavor.

One down and one to go! Great job! You know you could heat up a pot of water and dunk the bird in it until the skin easily peels off on the legs. You can pluck the feathers in no time after that. Enjoy the chicken stew :)

Yay that is our thought. We of course didn’t need 9 roosters for our 8 hens however. 🤣🤣 We still have two roosters for the hens now. I’ll need to harvest the last one.

Try blanching the culled chicken a bout5 to 10 slow dunksinboiling water. Then remove excess water then plu k it so you can see the skin, if you want it is then easy enough to pull off, but you loose the good fat and flavour there too...

After you dispatch the bird if you have a big pot of boiling water. Dip the bird in there for about 30 seconds and you can pull the feathers off down to the skin. Reach your hand inside the bird and pull everything out. Quick and easy takes about 10 minutes

Very well handled with the editing. Having dispatched several roosters in my day it can get...sporty. One suggestion I would have for cleaning is to scald the bird and pluck it then remove the feet and innards. As you discovered cleaning birds is different than cleaning mammals. God bless you and yours, my friend. We will catch up soon.
@FayleeJames
@FayleeJames 5 жыл бұрын
I agree with Matt, you need a scalding station to help getting the feathers off. You don't want to loose all the skin, that where the flavor is when roasting the bird. It will get better and easier for you in time. Just keep moving forward.

Mainly because they are mutt roosters. And I waited a little too long to harvest them so they would be good for roasting anyway. Just good for pot pie, tortillas soup, and tacos! 😁😁😋👍🏻
