This is the 4th episode of the DIY Onehweel build.
Today, we build a battery pack.
I am using 20 18650 lithium ion cells that are Samsung 25R.
Next: Making the footpads, and connecting it all together.

1:50 it's a good idea to add "fishpaper" between the 2p parallel groups... otherwise if the cell shrinkwrap wears through (due to vibrations etc.) a short circuit will happen between the groups ⚡🔥

So are you using a hobby charger? And if so do you charge it as 1s since it has bums

0:35 doesn't measuring the cell like that with metal calipers create a dead short between the +ive and -ive? 😱😱😱

Yeah youre right. Little bit of wrap on the battery terminals saved it but shouldnt be done.

@@Fungineers hmm, I see that differently but perhaps you can tell me how you see it. In my hoverboard 2 cells are connected in parallel and they are then in series with the next pair. (2P10S) I would think that a 10S2P has a string op 10cells in series, and then the ends of that string are connected to another string. But hey! What a fast response. And now that I look at it again. You did the first option.

I cant recommend the wheel yet, because I havent tested its speed, torque, etc., so please be patient. The batteries can be bought from any local 18650 lithium ion supplier. Make sure they are high discharge. Better to buy a battery pack. The rails are just regular 50x20 aluminium rails

Superb SIr! I had one question, you are using 37v battery for a 36v motor. won't it burn the motor? Thanks

Its ok. My battery is actually 42V when full. Other people are running 50v too. V doesn't kill the motor current does.

I need a recommend on chargers? i got a 15s2p onewheelXR battery but no idea how to charge it... or how to integrate it into this project? also with the Fokker withstand the 54v from the XR+ Battery?

hey! wonderful video with tons of information. I love it. I have a onewheel+ Xr with 1 or 2 bad battery cells at 660 miles! I am looking for a service to rebuild this battery pack for me as I am now out of warranty. Would you happen to be interested in doing so? How’s the battery life? Apparently FM’s stock batteries are larger than this. Curious, any reason you chose the 25r over the 30q Samsung batteries?

Havent tested yet. Both are good batteries I just got a better deal on 25R

what about the charger? what should we use for charging that battery? how many amps should we use?

2A to 4A is fine. I use 4A fast charge..charges in 30 40 mins. Make sure voltage is correct. 42V for 10S. Also dont buy cheapo chargers. Buy one with fuse.

Which BMS board are you using like obviously it would be a 10s board but what is the max discharge and max charge current? Hope you reply to it

if each cell has 2.5Amps, this configuration of 10s2p it give us 5 Amps Total right? Just to Confirm

Capacity is measured in AmpereHours (Ah). Yes each cell is 2.5Ah, this makes 2p groups equal to 5Ah

What is the purpose of the 3rd wire that you have taped? 3:47

Thats the charging negative wire. This bms has a separate C- connection. Some bms have the same leads for charging and doscharging (check the bms for 6s battery i built for my electric skateboard). This one has p+ (which is also c+) p- and c-
