This video is on how to build a solid roof rack using aluminum and cheap basic tools( bandsaw not required easily could do it with a jig saw) for under 200 dollars. This is on my tacoma but the idea is the same for any truck or car just have to get creative with the mounts
Enjoy the video and remember to like, comment, and subscribe!

Oh, and another question: Could you explain how the mounts you made attach to the factory roof track? Thanks.
@buddabuilds8851
@buddabuilds8851 3 жыл бұрын
So far the most weight I've put on it was me standing on it and I did not notice any major flex. Other than that I have no actual strength tests. And mounting them i used 1/8in aluminum angle bars to make brackets to the roof and then drilled holes into the rack where it lined up. Thank you for watching and I hope this helps.

@buddabuilds8851
@buddabuilds8851 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I definetly should of added more if that but I used 2x2 aluminum angle and cut/drilled it to fit on the roof then layed the rack on top evened it up and drilled and bolted to it. Because I did that curve in the rack it self the front hold needed about .5 in spacers on each side. I hope that made since anc helped!

I’m looking to put a roof rack on a sedan. Unlike the SUVs and your Tacoma, it doesn’t have factory mounting points. Right now it looks like I can remove the headliner and drill holes up through the reinforced portion of the roof. Always open to thoughts and ideas if you have any.

@buddabuilds8851

From what I understand it’s if you needed say 45 and 1/2 in the 45 is the length and the fractional length is the 1/2. I went with 48 inches for my Tacoma. Hope this helps

Given most of the alu racks are made using 1"x2", did you have concerns using 2040? Have you put much weight on it?
@buddabuilds8851
@buddabuilds8851 3 жыл бұрын
It really didn’t concern me to much I am able to stand in it with out it flexing severely. And the flex that is visible comes from the mounts that go to my roof the bars are pretty ridged. Thanks for watching and I hope that helps!

I do believe 3/16 is strong enough. I’ve strapped down kayaks and paddle boards down and can even stand on it so I feel confident with it. And I’m not sure in the weight it’s not to heavy because I can lift it fairly easy on to the roof. Thanks for watching
