Excellent demo! Thanks for no crappy music and detailed explanation. Also love that you try to avoid using massive tools. Nothing more annoying then going on a DIY video and then finding out that you only need a mini factory to do it. Thank you :D

I've making pipe lamps for about two years, great explanation of how to make a simple valve switch. Instead of using a dremmell, you can also use acetone to take off the excess plastic. If you want to try an another unique switch, you can get a ignition type switch with key from Amazon for $10

Nicely done! I've watched other how- too videos on this subject, but yours makes more sense than any, especially for the application I have in mind. Good production and good delivery. Thank you sir.

That's neat, FYI, the threaded thing you are using is called a black pipe "close nipple" a close nipple is the shortest nipple that can be made with that size thread, nipple lengths go up from there, like 1/2 x 3" nipple, 1/2 x 4" nipple, and so on. When they cut the pipe with a pipe cutter, it leaves a "burr" inside, I just thought you might want to know the correct names of things.

A few notes (after my trial and errors)- I found that home depot had a larger selection of hose bibs (spickets) than Lowes. When selecting your hose bibb make sure the hex cap below the handle fits a 1/2" close because the first one I got did not (however this can be fixed by buying a 1/2" cap and drilling a hole thru it and replacing it. Also- you see that his 1/2" x close pipe nipple has a smooth part in the middle. I grabbed one that was slightly shorter and did not have a smooth part and it was too short (didn't cover the switch when inserted over). Make sure you get the nipple with the smooth part in the middle because its longer! Make sure to select the JB QUICK weld, not the regular stuff as this will significantly reduce your waiting around time (or shorten your project by a day).

Thanks for this video. I've been thinking about making one of these contraptions, and your video showed me that this project is just a little beyond my level right now. I appreciate your comment about trying to focus on projects that require only basic tools. With the grider and the JB weld plus the necessary parts, it's a little out of my budget too. Thanks for saving me the headache!

I didn't dremel the switch. I heated it and shoved it in. Extremely tight fit that way. I groved the inside of pipe first to give the melted outer plastic something to grab onto . whatever works ,,, right?

+Todd Roy good question, in theory a very long time. I still have the first two lamps I built. I use them daily and have had no issues. Sun light is usually what would be bad for the tube so it should be fine

Doing it this way takes away from the (water valve) light switch that people are going for, doesn't look right without the hose bib/spiket connection....all you did was made a switch with a round handle....just saying.
