Hello fashion friends!!! Today I have a pattern for these pleated shorts that are perfect for summer! You can change up the design to make it easier for more beginner sewists or keep it as is if you are more intermediate/advanced. Hope you guys enjoy the tutorial!

$9 seems a steep cost when compared to patterns from designers that include lengthen / shorten lines for hem and front / back rise, notches for button loop placement, and more clear instructions i.e. 'with right sides together', better differentiating pattern pieces not just calling it top or bottom piece. The instructions included in the PDF are hard to follow and are incomplete compared with this video, and this video tutorial assumes a fair amount of skill / knowledge in the sewer. I have made many pairs of pants and shorts, and was able to make these shorts because I know the general steps. If I were a beginner, I would have found this challenging to follow. That being said, I enjoy the shorts and am pleased with how they turned out after pattern hacking in several areas. 3/5 stars overall.

I hadn't sewn in years, but I decided to sew this shorts for my girlfriend's birthday this summer. After two and a half exhausting days, I'm proud to say that I've almost finished these shorts. Just finished these. I widened the dart take in to accommodate the width difference between my hips and waist. I've never had shorts that fit both my hips and my waist before! Thank you for helping me make my dream of high waisted shorts come true ❤️

I made one following her pattern. These are the first shorts I made and they turned out really cute. I omitted the belt loops because I got lazy, but the instructions where easy to follow and it fits true to size as long as you use the correct the seam allowance.

Question for you Kiana, when you "stitch in the ditch" does the opposite side edge get tucked under or stay revealed as you show at 12:25. I don't have a serger so my edge wouldn't look as nice as yours do... I was thinking I would tuck the edge under and hand stitch from the inside to cover up the raw edges. Also, THANK YOU for making this tutorial video to go along with your pattern. So helpful :)

Do you mean the wrong side? The stitch in the ditch should catch the wrong side and help tack it down. Check out her pleated skirt tutorial. She explains it in more detail there. This one: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rtClpqSir9zIcaM.html It’s near the end of the video.

Im about to buy this pattern, but before I begin sewing I'd like to make sure it would work for someone with a 32 inch waist but 43 inch hips. I often find patterns to end up being too loose at the waist or too tight at the hip and I wonder if there might be a way to work the pattern to fit me right

these are so beautiful! as always!! i was wondering if there is a reason you cut the fly facing seperate from the front of the leg, as opposed to cutting them as one piece and then pressing the facing towards the inside? that’s how i’ve always done it so i was kinda curious if there is a particular reason you do them seperately :)

Thanks!! There a multiple ways to do a front fly, and this is just the method I personally prefer! Also it’s easy to just omit the front fly in case beginners don’t want to use it

Yes you can! Just lengthen the pants, but make sure the inseams and side seams are the same length! If you want them a little wider, you can always widen the shorts from the hipline down to the hem.
