Home RenoVision DIY Oh My Goodness! I've just seen Jesus! The EXACT demonstration I've been crawling in the wilderness of video deserts 🌵 looking for. I'm the ultimate frugal person. I'm having to do my own plumbing, because A: I'm an Ebenezer & 2: plumbers are scarce in my area and they can't stand I want to watch them work( I have a reputation) but it's because I want to learn. Yet I offer to pay them handsomely if they will just let me work with them. Last quote was 8-10,000 and I was gonna cut out the floors where needed cut out all old pipe and dig up all under ground lines. I mean what the fudge? Seems like an awesome deal to me. My last plumber hasn't called me back..... in 2 months... AAARRRGGGHHHH!!! & yes I have called repeatedly, text, voice mail.... crickets! So praise the good lord for YOU! Even though this video fringed the pornographic😯😳😬 it has been bar none the best most informative, I'm shedding tears 😭 of unbridled, hysterical JOY, I mean finally I can sleep better at night! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Great episode! Learned a lot, even though I have been doing DIY plumbing for 30 years. My vent stack story: Years ago had a two-story house in Minnesota. There was one small gap in the wind-break trees to the north-west. About once per winter, we would get a storm that came in from just the right direction -- it would drop 8 inches of snow on the roof, and the warm moist air coming up the vent stack would freeze into a soft-ball size ball of ice. The next morning, when the air is about -15F and the wind is still blowing, I am climbing the ladder with a hockey stick to knock the ice off so that the sewer would vent again.

Awesome video, Jeff! So grateful to have found you and your wealth of knowledge. Listening to you on so many topics over the past year has given me the confidence I need to speak up! In the past, I would have just gone along, not knowing any better and then would have been upset when things went wrong or when my contractor says that what I want can’t be done. Major catastrophe avoided yesterday because I knew enough to say, “No, don’t drill a bugger hole in my brand new countertop, give me the part and let me show you how it works, the hole is the correct size.” In the end, we were both happier for it as this would have been an irreparable and irreplaceable $5000 mistake! Thank you for sharing your experience so freely and thoroughly. You do make a difference, even when you don’t realize it. Tracy

Thank you for the time and energy you have invested in providing non bias information for the casual DIYer like me! It takes a lot of the skepticism and hesitation away from consuming your content to know that there is no brand name behind the scenes pulling the strings. Too many similar videos end up being a "native advertisement" that fails to mention that until after the viewer has invested much of their most valuable currency, time. I applaud your creative methods of generating revenue and wish you nothing but continued success. The democratization of once hoarded and trade secret information is by far one of this medium's most beneficial offerings. If I can make one small suggestion though. Please don't purchase props for your show and then return them to the store after you are finished with them. You mention in several of your videos, including this one, purchasing materials, fittings, etc. with the intention of returning them later for a refund. This is harmful to the suppliers that you purchase from, as well as the industry as a whole. It enables consumers to justify similar behaviors with other project related items like tools and consumables. While a company like Home Depot can probably take the financial hit from a percentage of their customers doing this, many smaller regional and locally owned stores cannot. The online economy has already forced many stores out of business and the ones that are remaining are operating on a razor thin margin. Even if the item is deemed okay to resold, there are still a number of costs. Lost inventory on hand, employee time handing both the sale and the return transactions, and time spent restocking these items. These things all cost stores money. As someone who is using this platform as a business, these purchases are tax deductible business expenses. So please be a responsible member of the business community and accept that there are necessary business expenses involved in video production. You could always chose to donate unused materials to a Habitat for Humanity project, the Salvation Army, or post them online in a free post so that someone struggling to pay for a home repair might find some grace in your generosity. Thank you again for all that you do and I look forward to your future on this paltform.

Excellent information for the basics. You discussed the necessities for probably 90% of the work a DIYer would need to do. The only thing I would add would be to make sure to use the primer with the solvent welds on ABS or PVC. Just using the solvent cement will seal the pipe for the short term, but a few years later it will easily be able to be pulled apart by hand. The primer will clean/melt the outside layer of plastic on the pipe and fitting which will allow the solvent cement to bond properly. That type of joint will never be pull apart by hand. Also, as I was told on my first day of plumbing apprenticeship, "Two things you need to remember. Crap flows downhill and payday is on friday."

Yeah, the best bottles come from Nestle. They are rated B for best from toxicity. The only other rated B is Gerber Bottled water but don’t know where they sell it. Other than that Costco is rated at a C. And every other company including Avian, Desani and Springfield bottled waters are rated a D or F for their super toxic plastics. I once researched this when water was tasting like plastic bottle. P.S. Never buy those inexpensive deals where the water has been out in the sun in front of the store. And bottled water should be consumed within 3 months from pick up at store. The plastic holding the water breaks down and spreads to water inside. Noticed there was no company with an A rating? Stay healthy guys and good luck.

The house that I just bought has a big pex manifold, accessible through a cabinet door in my garage with individual valves for each cold and hot water line. I don’t know much about plumbing and I’m sure this is the norm now but it’s way better than what I had before. Plus, since it’s a flexible pipe, I imagine the runs to each fixture and appliance are much easier to make and to repair/replace.

Incredibly helpful tutorial on all the most important stuff about plumbing--enough detail to go and get the job done yourself, or if any questions remain, it was clear enough to know exactly the right question to ask! Thanks Jeff for putting out some amazing content here, I look forward to many more to come!

Excellent video. Very well done. Im about to renovate a house built in the early 50s. Having some plumbing issues and after watching your video now know its a result of improper venting. Love your channel.

Awesome stuff- I've learned so much from your channel. You're the first I've heard to say that PEX copper rings are better than the steel clamps- even though the steel rings cost more at the box stores.

When dealing with vent piping remember it also needs to have a slope toward the street. I had to move my venting roof penetration location do to adding solar panels. The venting pipe in the attic ended up filling with water because it was not tilted to drain to the street properly. I was lucky. I had just dry fitted that piping for 6 months. When I went to glue it I recognized the problem and fixed it.
