Great video man. Thanks for sharing it. Best video I've found on how to cut out and build an interlocking pieces plyo box.

With todays inflation and Gas prices it's less expensive to buy the Plyo box. There are dangers when using a Plyo-Box make sure you have a spotter. Our daughters Agility trainer only uses 12-16" sides of a box and NEVER a standing jump to the bench other than that. great craftsmanship

Thanks for watching and your comment. Your right with the increased cost of plywood and your time and gas. Buying would be more cost effective.

+Terry Hagan thanks for watching. I think a clean shop is a safer shop. I try to clean up after every project.

Hi! Nice box design and thanks for the video. However how do I know on which pieces I need "female and male" ends of the notch for the interlocking functions?
@thomrider6 жыл бұрын
+Caglar Yurdakul just start by making a plan with male into female ends until you work out your pattern. I always try and start with a plan for any project, before I ever make sawdust. Enjoy.

Great video! My first attempt woodworking was making one of these which failed because the jigsaw didn't cut interlocks cleanly. Will try with the router. One question how did you get straight lines on the template?
@thomrider8 жыл бұрын
+egastt I used a table saw to get straight cuts close to the finished template then a hand saw to finish off the cut.

I love the design with an emphasis on box strength. One other important thing you should do is to round off the edges. Use a router or sander because if you should miss the box and hit your shin it’s very painful.

Great video! one question though, what edges get notches and which get the opposite?
@thomrider7 жыл бұрын
+zippertail the sides get tabs and notches, the top and bottom gets notches. There are a few pics on the internet illustrating this. Hope that helps.

Thanks for sharing. Which side do you put the open hole to insert your hand
@thomrider7 жыл бұрын
+Selena Thomas I put the hand holes on the long ends myself but you can put hem on any side you like.

How did you create the first pilot pieces? I created the same box you made using only a jigsaw but it ended up not fitting quite right. I was thinking about using a router like your example or a circular saw to make my puzzle piece cuts for the next time. Any recommendations?
@thomrider7 жыл бұрын
+Vimix21 I just made positive and negative pattern boards. Taking my time to make sure they were a snug fit. Then they become your route ring templates, to guarantee a correct fit on each joint. You can use any tools you like to make them. But a router is the best to follow them. Depth of the joint is dependent on the material thickness your going to use. Thank for watching and good luck on your next box.

Mr. Backyard wood shop. what are the measurements you would use for a smaller box. For someone that is 4 ft short. I want a smaller box.
@thomrider7 жыл бұрын
+Selena Thomas you can adjust the size to your leg lift. Just lift your leg and take a measurement. My best guess would be 6" x 12" x 18".

Thanks so much for this video! Could you tell me the best way to sand the handles? Seems like they'd be hard to reach
@thomrider4 жыл бұрын
I sand them with a drum sander and then hand sanding to finish.

Great video! Just have a few questions: 1) How much smaller should the pilot hole be compared to the screw? And does it go through both pieces of wood? 2) If you’re using interlocks, do you have to measure extra on top of your sides if you wanted say a 30x24x20 sided box? Thanks!
@thomrider4 жыл бұрын
The bit should be the same size as the solid shank inside the treads of the screw. It does go through both pieces of wood. No you make the sizes like normal then notch out the interlocks.

Great thank you!

What type of sealer would you put on this to make it weather protected and not slippery?
@thomrider6 жыл бұрын
49ER CANO polyurethane would work maybe 3 or 4 coats. Or an outdoor sealer. Which ever type you choose I wouldn't sand the finish smooth so you get some grip.
@wrath407z7 жыл бұрын
This will be super helpful for me real soon, thanks for putting it up. Is there a way that you'd recommend to smooth out the edges, to avoid shin scrapes and such?
@thomrider7 жыл бұрын
+Chezhiyan E one you get it assembled you can round over all exposed edges. Thanks for watching
@wrath407z7 жыл бұрын
I'll try that, thanks!

Would u need to change the dimensions if u use a jigsaw to cut out the 6 boxes? Is the blade thickness as much as a factor?
@thomrider5 жыл бұрын
Not because you cut on the waste side.
@JJWIZWARL7 жыл бұрын
what was the final measurements at the end after the change?
@thomrider7 жыл бұрын
+JJWIZARD 23 & 3/4 inch X 30 X 20. I had to adjust for the saw kerf on the one dimension. Thanks for watching and the question. If you need anything else just let me know.
@jmfrank70344 жыл бұрын
Backyard woodshop, what are the dimensions of the templates for the tongue and grooves?
@thomrider4 жыл бұрын
6 inches wide. 3/4” deep. And then 3/4” cut out. Or whatever your material thickness is.

@thomrider3 жыл бұрын
It’s just a 1/2 pattern bit. Any brand will work. Thank you for watching
@hollandemery84997 жыл бұрын
I think you need to make sure that one set of sides has four female cuts or you will end up with a box that is missing corners.
@thomrider7 жыл бұрын
+Holland Emery that is correct. I have done it both ways I filled in the missing corners in with Paduak which the client loved the red accent corners. But my box in the video is layer out for regular corners.
