Hi! Thanks for stopping by and checking this project of mine.
This time I decided to build a wireless portable Bluetooth speaker that also has a multimedia screen built into it.
Not only does this speaker looks cool with the 7 inch screen integrated, it also serves a lot of features that a regular phone or tablet would have, including WiFi connectivity, video streaming, phone mirroring and many others.
I have designed this speaker using the Dayton Audio TCP115-4 4" woofer paired with the Dayton Audio TD20F-4 3/4" tweeter. The sound quality and rich bass it produces is quite amazing for such a budget woofer and tweeter combination. In the next step I have also included links to similar woofer and tweeter combo if you are unable to get the Dayton Audio ones.
I am also amazed by the amplifier that is integrated in the Android multimedia - it can output quite enough power to drive the speakers with little to no audible distortion at high volume.
As always I did my best to include the full parts and tools list, wiring diagram and plans for the enclosure. All can be found in the page above. Make sure you watch the video first!
The main building material I am using is 10mm (3/8 in) MDF board. You can use plywood as well. You can use different thickness (8 or 12mm) if you want to, but will have to adjust the drawings by adding or subtracting the difference in thickness, length or width. I find MDF to be much more friendly when cutting or rounding corners. The dust produced is nasty stuff but with a good breathing mask it is OK to work with.
Thank you once again for checking out this project. Hope you will give this one a try or at least learn something new watching this.
Feel free to leave a comment or suggestion down below and don't forget to check out my KZfaq channel!
Thanks!
- Donny

You're welcome! You deserve kind words only, because actually your design makes sense. Not like the others.. other youtuber's design is not supposed to have a good sound, I suppose just from my basic knowledge.. they are usually just making some box without any calculations etc.. yours seems well engineered. keep that up!

Thanks for watching! I tried to place two batteries with almost the same capacity together so that they stay balanced for longer. Not sure how long they will stay balanced like that but I guess it is a good practice to take them out once in a while and charge independently.

I have a question. I noticed that in description there are 2 different subwoofers. The first link is of Aiyima, and the other two are of Dayton Audio. For the Aiyima there aren't the Thiele and Small parameters, and also the frequency response of Aiyima and Dayton Audio is different, so they are actually two different speakers. My question is: does the Dayton Audio, that you used, has the same frequency response of Aiyima or it actually stops at 55 Hz?
@DonnyTerek
@DonnyTerek 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! The drivers that I used for the build are Dayton Audio and I am not sure how they would sound using the Aiyima ones. I included them in the description for those who are not able to purchase the Dayton Audio ones since they seem close in parameters and almost the same in dimensions.

hey donny. love this build. i just ordered all the parts to try and re-create. i didn't see the spacing of the dividers or depth of the grooves on your plans or in the video, can you advise? thanks a ton. can't wait to get this thing built!
@DonnyTerek
@DonnyTerek 9 ай бұрын
Hi, thank you! Sorry for not including those in the plans. The dividers need to be closest to the multimedia unit. The groove depth is not very important, you can go with 3-5mm deep grooves. Just add this distance (3-5mm) to each dividers height, multiplied by 2. So that would be 6-10mm added height on the dividers if you'll cut grooves with depth of 3-5mm. Hope this helps.
@jfriscino

You could but would need to add a step down converter to drive the 18V to 12V.

how quickly would the multimedia system drain the batteries? What is the battery life like? Also, how are you wiring the the acc cable from the radio?

It plays for around 4-6 hours on mid volume. You can check the wiring diagram on my Instructables (link in the description).

Yes, but for best performance you would need to adjust the inner volume for the particular speaker driver.

I have two portable speaker builds I'm working on now. I was wondering. How long does your charge last? and did you experience Clipping of power? I was thinking of switching to 18650's, currently using Sealed Lead battery . The headunit(Pioneer MVH-S21BT) I'm using may demand too much power. In short, on a full charge everything is great for an hour, then it just begins cutting off and then powering back on, and every time a bass line hits it goes. I was think of stabilizing it with a cap, or parallel two sealed lead batteries(That gets heavy). I guess I'm curious how well the 18650's hold up under load. Sorry for the story.

Hi! The batteries on this speaker last around 4-6 hours. I haven't experienced any clipping. I believe you would simply need a larger capacity battery to provide enough current for the amplifier so that the voltage does not drop below required power input level when bass hits.
