Thanks to you guys, I've chosen a bench drill. Before it arrives, I thought I'd test a design and see how simple the process could be. There's a few 'hiccups' along the way but it wouldn't be a JustBS video without them!

Certainly checking that out. I was really impressed with how much quicker it was than hand sanding so need a way to make it a shop feature! Cheers mate

I bought a pillar drill at a local auction. It is at least 30 years old and it still works wonderfully. I bought it for the exact same reason you want one. It works. Also, what is it about the phrase: "Don't be a muppet, ..."? I laugh every time I hear it.

Nice project! You could customize it to attach to your beer caddy or build it into your caddy. Maybe even offer a bottle opener/caddy combo for sale. I feel the same way about the drill press. When it absolutely has to be perpendicular, a drill press is the way to go.
@justbswoodworking
@justbswoodworking Жыл бұрын
That's a good shout. Could sell them in combination too! There's been quite a few times in the past where I needed perfectly perpendicular and then suffered because of my untrained eye. The drill press is here now... there's no going back!

Nice 😊 Suggest optimising process for a few things (obviously drill press and jig for repeatability on holes): Taper, do with a tapering jig on table saw / router table, or jig saw then flush trim to template on router table Rounded edges, round over bit on router table Then sand smooth. Will be much more efficient than doing everything with belt sander
@justbswoodworking
@justbswoodworking Жыл бұрын
Cheers Fred. I'm certainly going to do some sort of jig. Edging more towards the mitre saw though as the pieces are going to be so small! You're bang on about the belt sander being slow though. I was impressed with the speed for 1 opener but doing 15 might be a little boring! Cheers buddy

Nice wee project few bits of wisdom/info from what a no/done. Belt sander do it upside down there may even be holes in the side the sander and possibly even a random clamp in the box to put it through. Get a sanding rubber if youve not got one. Need get some watco danish oil best of gear. Forsner bits look at abracs as a company they do an amazing set of forsener bits and other bits razor sharp amazing even give them a message if u explain what your doing i can almost guarantee theyll send u box of stuff for a written review!(ask me how a no that!)🤔😀 Oh and my cheap arse mode here Aldi bia moretti substitute just as nice and half the price 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Cheers buddy. I need to investigate the belt sander a bit more as it got the job done so quickly. If needs bee I'll make some kins of cradle to hold it! I'll check out that company for the bits. I've been able to get a few good router bits from a local hardware place but their range is very limited! As for the beer, I'm afraid I'll have to investigate and a do plenty of product testing before I take your word for it 🤣🤣

Great idea but maybe you could expand the idea and add a small box to bottom to catch bottle tops and it could be fixed outside on a fence or shed for when you barbecue . Just an idea.

I really like that I've had the same bottle openers in my workshop for a few years now but never got around to using them. I think I've thought of and bought items for more projects than I've actually ended up making in reality lol. I reckon you'll make a nice little earner out of those. I think that wood looked like oak so you should probably do some with the ebonising solution too. Could you clamp the handle of the sander in your vice maybe so the belt is facing upwards??
@justbswoodworking
@justbswoodworking Жыл бұрын
Yeah, It certainly behaved like oak. I picked up some reclaimed hardwood from a reclamation yard the other day so I plan on using that for the final products. It's scrappy and will need to be milled and glued but it should turn out nice. I never thought about doing it facing upwards. That's a good shout. Having broken the bank on the drill, there's no way I'm spending money on a sanding station now 🤣🤣

Great vid! I don't believe you ever mentioned your name? Just thought I'd throw it out there! Lol The drill press definitely comes in handy. I have a Ryobi. It cost $180 when I purchased it about a year ago. Of course there are more expensive and better ones but it has done the job when needed. And better bits are the way to go! Next big toy on my list is the jointer.....we'll see! BTW, how is the epoxy table?

My name is Ben. Think I've only ever mentioned it in the comments rather than a video! I pulled the trigger on the Bosch Drill press and am loving it so far! I'm going to be working on the epoxy table later this week. It will have flaws and imperfections but I'm not giving up on it!

Hi Great video once again, can i ask a stupid question? , how do you set the thicknesser for first pass, do you place the wood in and adjust on to it to get the right height?
@justbswoodworking
@justbswoodworking Жыл бұрын
To be on the safe side, I measure the thickness of the material (using a ruler/combination square) and add 1mm. Set the height to that thickness and run the board through. Usually, it slides straight through due to adding the 1mm but occasionally it catches in the middle and takes some material off (due to bowing usually). I may not of explained that very well but I can give more detail if you need. Cheers for watching buddy.
@michaelwillson6847
@michaelwillson6847 Жыл бұрын
Imo to your question similar as bs woodworking but usually if the board is relatively flat I'll offer it up to the thicknesser and try to feed it against it on the thickness of the material. If it's bowed I measure from the worst part the bow set the thicknesser then work down from there 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍
