And judging from what it seems, i can't say that it's spoiling his kids at all, it's the same as giving your kids a pencil, something crafted and invented some time ago, and would have been the bees knees, but like now, that Pencil is easy to get and easy to access, TVs are a little iffy but almost everyone knows where a TV can be bought accessibly and conveniently, same with now but in Linus' kids' case, it's a Mini Home Theater, a.k.a something that displays entertainment, basically having a TV in the kid's room except 40 years better.

If you read the comments, Linus, I've got a suggestion. You should 110% round the corners and edges of the shelf. Having spent the first 13 years of my life in a room which had a slanted ceiling, despite knowing it's there and wasn't going away anytime soon, I hit my head on it so many times. That shelf is even lower and will get knocked on. Safety probably isn't your #1 concern for yourself, but it probably is your #1 concern for your kids. Or even go the extra mile and get a rubber lining to use as a bumper. Kids heads are not the strongest and those 90 degree corners will cause painful accidents. If nothing is done and it is kept there, the way it is now, one of those corners will get blood on it.

Having done multiple DIY home theatre projector setups in my life, I have to ask, why would he not just ceiling mount it? Run the cords down the wall, and no danger of his kids banging their heads on a shelf, and knocking the projector off... I liked the roller blind screen though.

Its only been 9ish months from what I remember, And you also have to take into account the lag time between research completion (end of a year) and the actual video being made, its not as simple as "Hur dur, the computers have finished sucking up dust, now we just make a vid and its done within an exact year!:DDD", I'd wager there are significant production processes that the video itself will have to go through before it can even be considered for release.

The dust video? I kind of have a feeling those would take longer than expected. They were just put behind a wall and ran, so i can imagine they might not remember to turn them back on after a power outage. so that "year" of being on might take longer than a year. I am also waiting for the results

Pro tip, this projector should be mounted inverted against the ceiling instead of shelf mounted in this instance. It would avoid the need for keystone correction and help avoid blocking the image with your head. It a fun idea though, I did something similar for my kids bedroom with a Qumi Q2. The pro beam is much nicer though.

For best results. Search for studs. Common stud placement is 16" on centre. Over time, that shelf could give way.

If anyone else is doing a projector setup, where the projector doesn't have lens-shift, it's usually best to mount it upside-down if it's nearer to the ceiling. One thing you really want to avoid is angling the PJ up or down too much, and definitely NOT use digital Keystone correction if you can at all avoid it, as it can destroy the fine detail. Most consumer projectors are designed project out at an angle for the top of the image, and project pretty much a straight line for the bottom of the image.

Safety first...sharp corners on the shelf should be rounded or at least have corner protectors (children's eyes are more valuable than any tech). Cable management, at least buy longer cables and run them flush against the wall (a child's dent free head is more valuable than any tech). Secure the projector to the shelf. How much heat and noise does the projector give off? Ice pack and ear protection required?

I was going to say screw it into a stud for fuck's sake. I wouldn't trust that above a sleeping kid. In the end he might have, but knowing linus... probably not.

They'll be fine. I was learning to solder not much older than them. No heat protection on my hands holding an iron that got 200-1000F depending on what you needed. Pretty sure the Oxygen-Acetylene torch I used got significantly hotter than that. Get them started early and they will not turn out a clumsy as Linus.
