We are in the process of expanding our rabbitry, and with that being said, we've been building more rabbit cages here on the farm! Here, we show you the step by step process of how we build our DIY rabbit cages from welded wire.
Here's a list of the supplies that we used in the video!

I'm using rebar through the top to hang the cages. Works GREAT! Keeps the cages straight and not bending or bowing.

This is great info. Wish I knew this back 40 years ago when I was trying to homestead. Had started out small with rabbits and some chickens. Only had 4 does to start with as I was just learning & didn't want to have kits right away. But this seems to be the perfect way to house the rabbits

Roberta Driver it really is the best way that we’ve ever come across. And once we get our setup complete, it’s going to be so easy to clean the cages and take care of the rabbits, even though we have 16 does and 3 bucks right now. We like to simplify everything, so once we get this done, rabbit chores will be a breeze! Thanks for watching! 👍

This is sooo good guys... I love these cages we made 2 singles like this but it's hard in the winter but can be in a barn out building etc.. We used some thing under them in our porch to catch the mess.. But we also have pens... Pens can be harder to clean these cages makes cleaning up easy... Pens or cages you need shavings or a carbon with hay.... These cages make every thing easier... You guys did them right great job showing us how to

Wild Edibles yes, that’s exactly why we went with this method. They are much easier to lift (because they are so light) and clean. Those wooden hutches, which we have a couple, are so much harder to clean and poo and urine build up in the corners and on the walls so easy. Once we get our rabbitry finished, we will only have these style of cages.

I've spent a few hundred dollars on makeshift hutches and materials, trying to get a setup that I'd be happy with and would be functional. Yours is exactly what I wanted but didn't find your video in the beginning. Now I'll be getting the materials that you've linked and building a setup like yours. Thank you for these videos, they are full of info and very easy to understand and follow! A lot of videos ramble on and veer off from the how to the why but yours stay on topic and you simplify everything so that I can follow along without losing focus on what you're doing. I will be checking out your other videos because you explain things so well and I get all the info I need from them. Keep up the good work and thank you again for posting this video!

I built the same type of cages you did but for the side walls are used 1“ x 2“ wire cage material and I attached all the partitions first before I fold it up the sides and I did it from inside instead of waiting till after and doing it from the underneath side and that might be why you had more problem going through the smaller wire but if you Do it from inside of the cage first I think you would have an easier time thank you for the video

Thanks for the video. Would it cause harm to build the entire cage out of 1/2 x 1 instead of using the 1" ? We have a lot of chicken Snakes in this area, and I want to use the 1/2 x 1 for all the walls too, but not if it causes trouble.

What are your thoughts on 14ga vs 16ga wire? Everything I search, says to use 14ga. I see your build and 16ga looks like it works good. 16ga, 1/2" x 1", I can source locally, whereas the 14ga requires internet orders and $60+ shipping charges. Working on building our very first bunny cages and starting to raise our very first bunnies after we get some cages built. Starting plan is to build individual cages for easy movement, repairs, etc. 36" wide, 24" deep, 24" tall. Thanks in advance for any input from SawyerRidge and/or anyone else! :-)

Out of curiosity, have you ever tried connecting the dividers to the bottom first? Not sure if that would help, but you might check to see if it works. When you went 15', I was thinking 3'=5 pens. One buck and four does.

I think it is a tad impractical with the length of this cage. I'd cut that in half. And shorter cage can be stacked atop each other and you can get twice the amount in half the space of ground.

Here in California we have to go to a breeder to get rabbits is there anything you suggest that we should look for?
@uftc1324
@uftc1324 3 жыл бұрын
Old comment I know but if you still need help the most important things you should ask about are record books (disease record most importantly) pet agrees, not all breeders will have them, but it is nice when they do. I used to say ask if you can see there set up but so many people hate even if there good breeders a lot of people don’t let you see but you could still ask

Do you think you could use 3 foot wire to make a taller cage, or would it be too flimsy?

Josh Conner yes! We do sell our rabbits, but this time of year we are gearing up to sell our kits to a couple local farm stores, so pretty much any kits we get for the next 4-5 months will be going to them.

Hi! How much space does one rabbit needs? And do you sometimes give your rabbits free roaming time in a larger exercise pen?
@uftc1324
@uftc1324 2 жыл бұрын
The basic rule of thumb is 1 square foot for every two pound is rabbit. (Ie 8 lb rabbit would get 4s I are feet) for nesting does add an extra square foot, and add one more square foot for every additional rabbit. This is the very minimum. I prefer to go bigger because of a few studies I have read about the benefits (I can’t link them sorry :/) with additional tractor time.

@@uftc1324 I like to hear that you go a bit bigger, meat rabbits should have the same rights as pet rabbits.
