Reclaimed a couple of old doors into a great settle for the house, used a piece of bannister to add trim around the top to finish it off. Easy diy woodworking project using the Kreg pocket screw system. Destined for the skip from a house renovation i salvaged the doors and a few good lengths of bannister.
Work out from the doors what height its going to turn out, the height of the panels will dictate the sides. Build the back up first, if you're lucky you might get that in one piece, i had to cut and rejoin this one to match the sides of the settle.
Started off using the jigsaw but the cut was too wiggly, used the evolution circular saw instead to make the long cuts.
The Kreg jig is a great invention and coupled with a decent glue makes for a good combination. I used Titebond for this, its a good strong glue.
Kreg Pocket Jig amzn.to/2pHaAiC
The bannister was allread routed but need widening, i flattened the inside edge and mitred it into position, i attached it on with screws that were countersunk and then fit dowels in over the top to hide the heads.
A fair bit of sanding with the angle grinder which you can also use for moulding the seat for extra comfort. Finished off with the Makita finishing sander.
Painted using B&Q Valspar brand paint. I cant remember the shade but ill look it up for you and update this. Woodwork finished in Osmo satin.
Many thanks to Jan for letting me use her studio for the end shots :)
Music with thanks

Hi Bongo. Love the videos. Hope you are keeping well in the current situation. Old doors are a great source of building material. I take full advantage of the fact that people hate having them in the way and normal give them away for free after removing/replacing. I built my wife a complete kitchen from old pine and oak doors. I cut and rejoined them with biscuits and reattached the beading. The left over pieces i used for face frames and the panels as shelves. I just received some of your router bits from eBay yesterday and can't wait to give them a go over the weekend.

Looks really smart. I take it the paint is some version of chalk paint? As no primer used.....looked like a good finish either way

Someone gve me some old pieces of oak bannister/handrail they were lobbing out, screwed them down and used dowels to hide the heads, yes, it was the Kreg pocket jig, its good value for money that little thing and very useful.

Yes, I cant see Festool sending me a saw and considering they cost more than my van I cant see me buying one anytime soon. Also I dont think the blades on a festool cope with metal and nails so ill stick to Evolution :)
