DIY retractable paper bead roller, using a koki or sharpie marker and a split pin. It's as easy as that, and promises to be so much of fun. At the cost of this, you can afford to make one for all your kids and teach them a new craft as well.

Put BICARBONATE OF SODA (used in baking) into the barrel then pour SUPER GLUE onto the BICARBONATE OF SODA until it's wet. It goes harder and stronger than glass in seconds. But firstly make sure the split pin is in the barrel and positioned correctly. You can thank me later lol. Take care👍😷👍

Thanks for showing this. Etsy is selling something that looks exactly like what you have made - 2 of them for $20. I will look for a thin tube to put my pin into and use gorilla glue to fill it up. Then I'm going to put it into my electric drill and roll beads by pulling a trigger.

Great idea! another way to make a grip handle for your bead roller is to use the crochet hook sleeves, they are made with a softer material so it makes it easier on the hands and fingers

I CAN NOT THANK YOU ENOUGH. I have make dozens of bead rollers over the years, most of them with the medal pens you use, but I have used old ink pens and the bake clay, but Thank you for your wonderful idea of using the dried up markers. they are so much more comfortable then a ink pen to hold and roll. I have bought rollers, but they have then handles and the metal rollers are not long enough for the bigger beads. Again Thank You.

WOW thank you, thank you, thank you. i teach crafts at the seniors and mental health centres. now i can afford to teach bead making classes. here in canada the split pin is called a cotter pin. bought at hardware stores. as for your pens, take them apart, set aside the cap and outer case for another project. cover the ink filler with beads, glue on a decorative jewlery finding to seal the ink in and done.

Wonderful, genius idea! I have dried up sharpies! I'm betting we can make this much faster than it takes to order it! A side note. The dried-up tips still have at least one use that I know of. I believe it is to make your own alcohol inks. There are videos on it. Not totally positive it's alcohol inks, but it is an ink and it was really simple. Oh yes, as I saw another commenter. In the US, the split pin is called a cotter pin.

Using a dried out marker to make a paper beading tool is an absolutely brilliant idea. I have a set of bead rollers that I purchased years ago but I wanted to get some now for my grandchild. Unfortunately they have gone way up in price. I love to recycle and reuse what is normally considered trash so your creation is perfect and solves my dilemma. Like yourself, I also keep dried out markers, pens and many other things since in my opinion you never know if you will find a use for something. I've seen several other tutorials on making beading tools but your idea is by far the best. I can't wait to get some cotter pins so I can make my own set. Thank you for sharing. 😊

Thank you for sharing this. 🤯 I am extremely new to this bead-making game. I have been looking to buy some of those cotter pins from amazon to make my own rollers but can only find them in quantities of hundreds. But I only want 5 to 10 of each. Where did your husband find them in such small amounts?

Hi Marcia. The roller is made from old color pens and the pin can be bought at your local hardware store. Called cotter pins or split pins. I hope this helps

I must have missed it, but how did you get the cotter pin inside the marker

I pulled the marker apart. I then added the cotter pin from the top of the nib part and pulled it through with a pliers.
