In this weeks video we construct a staff sling to throw stuff really far. Have you ever wanted the ability to throw objects incredible distances? We have (see our huge trebuchet in other videos) but we wanted something mobile. Using some simple materials we DIY a device that can sling large rocks across a field. For centuries, the staff sling has been used to fight off wild animals, siege castle walls and even throw fiery objects ship to ship on the high sea. They're easy to make and take some getting used to. While we don't recommend sling staffs for maritime warfare, we do recommend them for the yard. Start with tennis balls before you sling rocks! Stay safe, have fun, find adventure and if you make something cool, let us know!

Great to see a new video featuring staff slings. I'm obsessed with hand slinging and staff slinging and I could maybe offer some advice on the design. I would say that the sling is a little too long and the metal bar and washer are unnecessary extra weight. A lighter staff allows it to move faster and so impart more energy. Bamboo also might not be the best material for the staff. As you saw, it broke twice. The pouch as well was kind of over-sized I would say. You can get away with a smaller one. The giant stock whip was really awesome :D Great video!

Dont get bored of the staff sling. just make it a manageable size. Think walking stick that throws fist sized stones. These things are fun as hell. the hook should be carved out of the stick if necessary, no steel pole required.

The pouch you could make from a rectangular piece of leather, cut longways down the centre about 30% from each end, leaving 40% uncut in the centre. Punch two eyeholes, one on each finger at each end, so each end has two holes, which you overlap and run your paracord through. Also punch two eyeholes and the juncture at the end of each cut, which will allow the overlap easily without crimping up - a nice neat overlap! This pouch will give you a cupped effect to hold the missile while allowing it to be free on release. I found this works very well if you have good strong leather! Another tip! A Trebuchet does not sling from the side, but directly overhead, so why not try the same and aim to keep the staff in a similar line to the way a trebuchet would do! You may find greater accuracy and perhaps consider the pivot point of your left and right hand as part of the whole throwing action, if you can mimic a trebuchet that never changes the line of fire, or pivot point, I am sure you will have more success!

@@FortInTheWoods When people asked me what I did for a living, I answered "I break stuff". That never failed to get me a chuckle. It would have been fun except for all the complicated federal and corporate regulations we were hindered by in passing or failing the stuff we were testing. The stress became too much, so I retired. Now, every day is Saturday, except Sunday, or course. 😉

Cut a bit more of the staff and cut your string down to about 1/3 of there length. Make your pouch half that size.

Only way to achieve the new world record in distance is to use staff slings. With ammunition being a piece of lead or a heavy metal dart.

What kind of gun videos would you like to see? Like how to shoot better or reviews? That sort of thing? And neither one of us are very big hunters. I've (Isaac) done it a bit but it's not something i do every year or know enough about to provide any information on the subject. But yeah if you have some thoughts on what you want to see let's hear em!

I was thinking since you Chanel is to get youth outdoors again that you guys could start with trap and skeet shooting because a lot of middle and high schools hAve teams. Then this fall you guys could go squirrel and rabbit hunting. I would love to see the channel doing more hunting stuff because it is a dying breed and we need to start getting more kids into it.
