Hey guys! I'm Alexandra Gater and I show you how to do rental-friendly upgrades and DIY projects on a budget. New videos every Saturday! I like that you first showed them moving some stuff under the bed. I think often when people say they’re disorganised the issue is just that they’re trying to keep too much stuff in one place. Another good solution is putting shelves above doors or high on the wall - extra storage that doesn’t get in the way

@@AlexandraGater I use similar under-the-bed storage but have even doubled that space by packing out of season clothing and bedding into vacuum bags first. Compression packing cubes are also good but can be more expensive 😊

I live by that in my apartment - go vertical with storage. All my seasonal stuff - Christmas, Halloween outfits and decorations - are on the highest shelves.

Setting bounderies helps. Shoes are my weak point. To manage this I do not allow myself to have more than fifty pairs of shoes at a time. When I buy a new pair I must get rid of a pair.

@@jacquelinea8224 And hanging sweatshirts and sweaters? Not needed and can stretch out the sweater. I think the little shoe shelves in the center could have been used and could have held things that can be folded (e.g., sweaters, sweatshirts).

Don't they say that we wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time. Having 75% under the bed works then. I worked with an organizer who talked about what style would work for me. Did I need to be able to see everything or did I prefer closed storage?

@@laughinlori6893 I suppose, but they cant see any of their bottoms at all. It looks like just tops that are hanging and all the pants are folded in a solid basket on the top shelf. I get not hanging everything but even some open cube shelving under the hanging things beside the hampers maybe?? Theres plenty of space there and then they could leave folded jeans or bulky items in there so you can still see them and access them more easily without bringing down baskets to dig through? Idk it just isn't a practical design in my opinion but if it works and they like it i'm happy for them

Laughin Lori, yes! We transitioned to FT RV life and hit the road right at the start of the Rona circus, so I had to get real with my wardrobe and lifestyle in a hurry. I keep a list of what lives under the bed so I don’t miss out on wearing choice seasonal items, and I have a color coded system of hanging items in my closet when I mark something for possible deletion that does not involve that backwards hanger trick that so many magazines recommend as it just won’t work in a tiny RV closet. I curated my wardrobe to the point that I have three functional capsules that somewhat bleed into each other based on season and climate, and that works so well. I’ve gone from four giant closets to this and my life is honestly so much more simple now. Being realistic and honest about what we actually wear is crucial to small living but also quality of life. Also, vac bags and flocked hangers are so helpful!

I think the closet looks fantastic! My favorite thing is the under the bed storage - getting seasonal things out of the closet entirely. Great solution and creates so much space. Also love that hamper! I have my own closet, and separate my whites and colors, so this is the perfect hamper! Thanks for showing us that we can do it ourselves with some expert advice!

When I clean out my spaces, I give it away on my local buy nothing and trading groups! A great way to give a home to things especially when thrift stores are closed.

I've always used the space under the bed for storage. So I think it's a good extra space to make use of!

If you have empty space underneath your hanging (blouses, shirts, etc.) clothes, buy hangers that "cascade" so you can hang several short items in a small "column footprint". You can hang three times as many clothes in the same space. I stole this idea from a friend.

My experience with the velvet hangers: even with lightweight garments, they break very easily with just the action of sliding them back and forth. I discarded all of mine. The hanging of clothes in tiers is a more workable solution.

Not a good idea. Those cascade hangers are not durable.

@@girlbossfromscratch i've had mine for years and I also use s-shaped hangers that allow 5 pairs of pants to be hung vertically in the space taken by 1 hanger..

My sewing equipment is in that space under my shirts and pants. 85cm for my clothes on hangers and a 6 drawer tallboy for my folded clothes is more than enough for me now.

Where did the luggage go? That takes up so much space in my little closet. Love the wall paper and matching baskets! I also use the storage fabric storage boxes from Ikea. They work great.

There was empty space on both sides of the laundry hamper, guessing that after the "reveal" that's where the luggage went!

Our unit is small and we have had to declutter and get creative with our stuff as storage is an issue. I try not to have much 'air space' in the cupboards and drawers but like to have 'air space' in all the rooms. Our wardrobe is a similar size. We replaced the sliding doors with almost to the ceiling taller ones, put a centre divider to formalise his and her sides then added an extra top shelf. Our shoes go on the shelf just above the clothes rod and our three small suitcases go on the top shelf. His side has hanging shelves, a small chest of drawers and some tool drawers. My side has a low shelf for my sewing machine and overlocker with sewing stuff underneath. We do not store out if season clothes though I do put my too small clothes in the spare cabin bag. We have a bedside drawer each and I have a tallboy.

What do I struggle with most in organizing my closet? Not hard to answer...hands down my husband's wall of t-shirts on the top shelf. I'm not exaggerating when I say he has close to 100!

Great makeover! I prefer not to put an open hamper of dirty clothes in an enclosed closet with clean clothes, but I assume there is no other place in the studio for the hamper to go. It does look nice and neat hidden away.

In our tiny cabin, we have a hamper that hangs on the back of our bathroom door. It's wonderful. Came from Amazon. I highly recommend.

Love the wall paper, I have an open closet (threw the ugly doors away years ago), I would love to redecorate the inside, throw the ugly carpet out and get it looking fine like this one.

There's so much unused space on the flank sides, and with the hamper in the middle, it just looks off? BUT they did a great job purging!

I agree. I think it might be more pleasing to the eye to have two nice laundry baskets (not the plastic ones) on the floor instead. That would also leave room for long dresses to hang. The rest is really cute, though.

Much better. My daughter uses under bed storage. Hers have clear plastic tops which are great so you can see what you need without opening each one. Also it's really good to learn how to fold your clothes and stack them sideways rather than on top of each other when storing so that you can see all of them at a glance without having to pull things out.

I don’t live in a studio apartment, but I do have very limited closet space in my bedroom. This was really helpful! My only problem right now, though, is that I’m currently unemployed and don’t have the money to “renovate“ at the moment. That will come in time. Thanks, Alexandra! You’re a lifesaver!

I'd find somewhere else for the laundry hampers as they take up so much room in the closet. Relocating them would allow a small set of drawers or cube storage for clothes and would provide a shelf for additional items.

@@Kevin-sm8pn a lot of people genuinely need suitcases and special seasonal shoes, but they’re not used everyday, which makes them “bulky clutter.” Especially in a studio for two adults! That doesn’t mean the items are useless junk for a princess. Your comment was quite disrespectful.

I'm not gonna throw out everything own just because I live in a tiny room with no storage. I store coats, shoes and spare clothes under my bed. That's not being a princess. Team AG videos are my patent de-stessors.😊 Just love them. While watching this one I felf that there is too much unused space above the baskets in the top shelf yet. Adding a glass shelf there and putting away summer tshirts etc in neat Konmari folds in designated baskets would be a good idea. I do that in my own wardrobe. Easier to reach than the underbed storage for me, particularly during those neither warm nor cold periods of the year. Just a suggestion. Wonderful work you are doing👍

I have been trying to figure out forever how to infuse color without wallpapering the entire room. Doing just the closet was absolutely BRILLIANT!!! As you said “Completely swoon worthy!” I have an adjustable bed not allowing deep storage underneath but will attempt to tackle it with 1/3 the size storage because every little bit becomes critical to my limited storage. Time to move the husband into a hotel because I feel a major reorg day or two in my future!

Sweet makeover overall. I'd opt for smaller hampers, maybe a series of them so that you can separate colors and whites on the fly. Too much unused space flank the (too tall) hampers and feels wasted. And I've got to complain about the high number of ads during the video

Love the wall paper, it adds so much pizzaz !!! What I did in the past is add a wider shelf and the bottom and a thin one above - most landlord did not care. I also put a closet rod extender, I'm short so I can get away with putting pants or skirts on the bottom 1/2. Great job for doing that remotely!!!

I need my life organized lol My love and I combined our two fairly small but full bedrooms into one fairly small, now very cluttered room! We have a locker for storage and it's almost completely full too now. It's hard to not thrift shop, especially when one of you worked at one so amaze-balls discounts!! These videos help me feel more motivated to fix all that 😅

Very useful tips. I like the suggestion of the baskets above and putting extra things under the bed. I have a box bed so I can put in a lot of things in an organised manner , under the bed. .I just had one suggestion. The two laundry baskets are a little too large. Maybe slightly smaller ones and one to each side of the closet would be better.

I struggle the most with keeping the clothes and items I don’t use often in their own space. Everything ends up smushedtogether and I dig through to find what I need.
