Today I'll show you How To Build this Modern Sofa / Couch completely out of ¾” thick plywood. I used bamboo plywood but any furniture grade plywood will work. This is also a limited tools project and all cuts were made with just a circular saw and jigsaw.

Launching The Simple Cushion Co. is something we've been working on for a long time and I'm happy to provide a product that I've wanted as a DIY'er / woodworker. Yeah, sometimes it takes a second to understand which cut is being made in a woodworking video. It’s not a huge deal, but for a visual person the context does help put the pieces together.

The bamboo ply is great material. I made a platform bed, nightstands and built-in cabinets using bamboo plywood (and baltic birch for the hidden surfaces and drawer boxes. The edges have great detail for no extra work.

Love the sofa, did you have any problems cutting the bamboo ply? Did the edges fray and how did they look? What type of saw blade did you use? Sorry for all the questions, at over $275 a sheet I want to make sure the cut edges are clean without chips, etc.

Wouldn't the cushions just slide off the sofa as you lean back? I guess you could put in some front strips to stop this from happening, or something the connects to the bottom of the cushion without sacrificing comfort.

Velcro the cushion to the Bamboo base so that your cushions won't slip.

I'm well on this DIY couch train. I just worry about the cushions slipping. Probably okay for adults, but i've got 4 grommets that do somersaults and flips on the couch, or watch movies upside hanging off the edges. Any thoughts on how to secure the cushions? a small cleat at the front? ties? velcro? Or maybe this just isn't the design for me. Love the work man, thanks for the vids.

more expensive but varies dependingon how many sheets you buy. I have paid between $140-$220. that's a lot but with sanded pine plywood at $64 a sheet it doesn't seem as bad to me.

How much are you paying for each sheet of bamboo plywood? I'm seeing over $200 / 3/4" panel, does that sounds right? The edges are very interesting. Much more of a high end look than normal plywood. It's beautiful wood, but woof, that price. All in with the cushions you are about $700 on materials, right?

cushions are the difficult part, indeed. Me and my wife made our own sofa. My design, my woodworking. she made the cushions. It cost about $250 for decent quality material (stuffing, batting, fabric, ect).wood was probably $150. redesigned/fixed things 3 times to get right. Took probably a combined 40hrs of work. Not an easy task to make something that's comfortable, good quality, and good looking.
