Hi Everyone, I am back again with this new video tutorial.
In this tutorial, I am going to show you how to charge a Lithium 18650 Cell using TP4056 chip utilizing the solar energy or simply the SUN.
Wouldn’t it be really cool if you can charge your mobile phone's battery using the sun instead of a USB charger? You can also use this project as a DIY portable power bank.
The total cost of this project excluding the battery is just under $5. The battery will add up another $4 to $5 bucks. So the total cost of the project is somewhat around $10.

You can reliably use a 7 ~ 8 volt solar panel which will allow enough amperage to start the charge cycle and still output 4.2v so this will work, but you'll have to use the stated solar panel mentioned above, not 5 volt. Here is the minimal and maximum voltages for the TP4056 from spec · Input Supply Voltage(VCC):-0.3V~8V

Hello, great video. Is it important to keep constant current for 18650cells? cause it's written that they should be charged cc/cv, but as I understand it depends from everything when you charge them with the sun panel. So does the current fluctuation damage them in any way or not?

Could you use all the battery WHILE charging in parallel? i would need to power a small GPU that require 5V and about 2.6Amp so im thinking of using 6 TP4056 (in parallel), 6 batteries and 1 DC converter to 5V (up to 3 amp). Does it sound stupid? I would have to find a solar panel for that but that is not my problem at the moment.

Thanks for your video. If I use 18650 battery with built-in overcharge and undercharging protection and I connect to TP4056 with protection (DW01) will there be a power drop or other problem? Finally, do I need this diode 1N4007 if I have a typical TP4056 without protection (DW01)? Someone wrote that it probably is not needed but I want to have reverse voltage protection.
@CrazyCoupleDIY
@CrazyCoupleDIY 4 жыл бұрын
HI There According to the datasheet: No blocking diode is required due to the internal PMOSFET architecture and have prevent to negative Charge Current Circuit. You dont need a DW01 coupled up with TP4056 boards. There are two variants of TP4056 boards. One of then already have a n inbuilt protection IC on it. However in general any component you add to a circuit will cause a bit of drop. Cheers

Hey can i use the battery while charging? Also what is the maximum input on the tp4056 because i am planning to power it with 5v 200mA solar cell (5x)
@CrazyCoupleDIY
@CrazyCoupleDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Hi There If you have a fully charged battery you can definitely connect it to a circuit while charging. The Input Supply Voltage(VCC) is:-0.3V~8V Output voltage: DC 4.2V. 4 chips, with a reasonable turn-off voltage, the charging circuit for each chip set 750mA, total 3A. Input connected two 5A Schottky diodes, 5V standard voltage input chip heat ideal (3.8V battery test). Comes with over-temperature protection, short circuit protection. You can connect two lithium battery cells in parallel to form an equivalent single cell battery with a total capacity of twice that of the individual single cells, but I do not recommend connecting more than two cells at a time to this module. When connecting your lithium batteries in parallel, it is best to charge each battery individually before making the parallel connection(s). With a voltmeter, check the voltage a couple hours after the charge is complete and make sure they are within 50mV (0.05V) of each other before paralleling them.

First of all thanks for the appreciation and your time. To charge a 9v battery to an optimal level u will need a panel that outputs somewhat similar voltage and high ampere. If you add a booster in the way then you will be wasting a bit of current/voltage generated by these panels.

A long as u stay under the max limits you will not fry anything. diyfactory007.blogspot.com/2018/04/diy-solar-battery-charger-hi-everyone-i.html 2. I have only connected one solar cell (5,5V 0,6W) with wires and the meter shows 83 mA. When I connect 3 in parallel, I'll be 240 mA Why is that? The input terminals of the module is recommended to use with clean DC voltages of -0.3V ~ 8V. Generators which are turned by a turbines outputs AC voltages, so you can't connect it directly, without a rectifier and a voltage stabilizer. (I'm no expert here but hope this helps)

@CrazyCoupleDIY
@CrazyCoupleDIY 5 жыл бұрын
The switch is to break the battery utilization circuit (the load) from using the battery when its getting charged. You can either use a mosfet/transistor in place of the switch or you can remove it all together. if you add 2 x 1865 in series you will get more voltage output so you may not need a booster, but in that case you will need a powerful solar panel If you add the 2 x 1865 in parallel then you will only increase the current and not the voltage output. In this case again you will need a panel with higher wattage output

@CrazyCoupleDIY
@CrazyCoupleDIY 4 жыл бұрын
This setup is to charge a 18650 battery which has the following specs Nominal Voltage: 3.6V. Nominal Capacity: 2,850 mAh. Minimum Discharge Voltage: 3V. Maximum Discharge current: 1C. Charging Voltage: 4.2V (maximum) Charging current: 0.5C. Charging Time: 3 hours (approx) Charging Method: CC and CV. If the Li-ios you are charging falls between these specs then you should be able to, otherwise you may need more panels and few more of the protection circuits. In reality one protection circuit should be used for 1 cell (they are dead cheap anyways)

TP4056 has: Input Supply Voltage(VCC):-0.3V~8V The charge voltage is fixed at 4.2V So to charge a "single 12 V battery" you will need more power. In general terms, you just need to add the chips in series to sum up the output voltage to the threshold and then use some voltage regulators to have it fixed @ 12V But to charge a 12 v battery you will have to use solar panels with more wattage I hope this helps

Just connect the IN+ and IN- of the booster to the OUT+ and OUT- of the TP4056 board. The booster outputs the voltage from the USB port, so you need to connect a USB cable to harness the boosted Voltage. Thanks again for watching, stay tuned for more amazing videos :)

Why a diode on the solar panel??? In the data sheet for the TP4056 on line 5 it specifically says that no blocking diode is necessary as the internal mosfet does not allow reverse current from the battery. That way you can avoid the 0.7v loss a diode costs, making your solar panel more efficient.

@@CrazyCoupleDIY I'm messing with a TP4056 right now for the same kind of application and watching KZfaq videos is always part of any research! Another improvement would be to desolder the red led to save a few more mA when charging. I'm using a 5W thin film panel with indirect light, for charging a 300mAh li-ion battery in my small world band radio (normally run on two AA cells), I use it as a clock radio to wake me up each morning, and it works perfectly playing news for one hour each day on the sparse sunlight it gets a few meters from the bedroom window. I'm in the process of eliminating parasitic power use in my home, and my previous LED clock radio with and old style transformer used 6W according to my new digital meter. This one runs for free.
@Tore_Lund
@Tore_Lund 5 жыл бұрын
Just pinched the red led off with pliers. Now the solar panel is at 3.76V while the battery is at 3.52V, that is only 23mV drop, quite good, so the TP4056 is very suited for solar applications.

@CrazyCoupleDIY
@CrazyCoupleDIY 5 жыл бұрын
BT modules consume lot of power. In general any wifi module drains out battery pretty quickly unless you put it on sleep or use interrupts. LEDs are also massive power drainers. The best way would be to connect a multimeter in series and calculate the power consumption and then do your math and see how long the device will last on a fully charged battery and based on your math you can find out how much power you need to charge them back up.
