Several parts we used on this project are considered "found." meaning we located them on ebay, or by simply taking old electronics apart. Identifying them specifically would be difficult, as some we are not aware of what they are specifically.
The hard drive motors, and square switches were found on ebay.
Others were also ebay and we used the the following search terms to locate them:
- Vintage Camera Lot
- Electronic Parts Lot
- Spare Aluminum Parts Lot
Some days are great for finding unique items, and others not so much. It really depends on who out there is selling their junk :)

Ooooooh, this is most *certainly* the channel I've been looking for! 2:00 in and I've already added a salvage part to my build list that I never considered! Instant subscribe! So the project I'm working on is ambitious for an amatuer hack like myself, but I'm nothing if not meticulous...and patient! The "prop"? Create a Star Wars starship/Starkiller Base computer console corner unit and wall display to house my pc and Star Wars collectibles almost entirely from found, salvaged, repurposed materials. Hi There. First of all thank you very much! I added some links in the description of this video where you can find products that I purchased on Amazon for the build, so give that a look. As far as the odd pieces you see, those are a bit tougher to explain. Many of the more interesting elements are actually from Vintage Cameras, old electronics, projector parts, and spare aluminum parts. If you search ebay for "vintage camera Lot" or "electronic lot" and even "Aluminum Lot" you will often find that people are selling boxes of random stuff. I find some decent pricing from time to time and use those items to build a library of parts to work with. I work in the AV industry, and I collect up old DVD players, projectors, etc and then take them apart. Inside other than circuit boards you will find odd looking parts that I remove and then use later. This is not unlike the films where they took apart engines and other things for their greeblies. The beauty behind this is you find items to use that are largely unrecognizable. That really sells the look. I will be putting out a video this week on "Greeblies" showing how I find them, and what I look for, so come back Saturday and check that out. 1:31 If you don't want to chisel then apply painters tape to the locations you'll be sanding prior to applying any paints. After the paint you've applied has dried just remove the tape and you've got yourself places to glue without any cleanup.

Scott Kraft thank you! I’m in Colorado so I don’t have much issue with humidity causing any problems. I’ve also noticed that the lacquer almost cures like a hard plastic cover many ways.

Need to make the panels inter active. That one could easily have been made into a stereo with music or just sound effects. Use a good motherboard with flash drives and have it voice controlled, and have it control lights and other things in the room. Or just use phone so you can call someone from your panel.

Hey there, thank you much! Glad you liked it. I use a couple different sizes. 1/4” = 6.35mm and also the 1/16” = 15.875 mm. You might double check my conversion, but I think that’s correct. Have a great one!

Brian- starting a project of my own and for the life of me cannot remember what the MDF sealer is called that you use. I've rewatched a few of your vids cuz I remember you telling us what it was but I can't seem to find it. Can you help me out? Thanks!

Hey there, yes. It’s made by Minwax. It’s a lacquer. You can get the spray version, or you can go with sanding sealer if you have a larger piece of MDF that you need to seal. It requires a bit more sanding and re-applying but for large pieces it’s more cost effective. How is it that you find a lot of these parts on ebay? Do you just search scrap?

indeed. it really is a crap shoot most of the time. Some weeks are much better than others for items listed. I use search terms like; Machined Aluminum Parts Lot, Vintage Projector Parts, Electronics Parts Lot, camera parts lot. It seems that the "Parts Lot" is the key. The machined aluminum parts are the tough ones to find.

Hi Zach, thanks for checking out the video. Its not a specific Star Wars prop, but more "themed." We are just building geeked out stuff using Star Wars styles to hopefully make it look like it at least belongs in the Star Wars Universe.
