EDIT: Someone pointed out to me that the technical term for the B-keyed PCIe NVMe drive is "PCIe 3x2 NVMe", while the incompatible M-keyed ones are called "PCIe 3x4 NVMe".

Hi man ! Your videos are awesome, so clear and precise ! I have a question concerning an install of a WWAN card, an actual one, to be able to use a SIM. I've got the card but opening the case i found out the antennas are missing. I went through this video to try to figure out how they're installed on top of the screen. Are they together with the WiFi antennas ? Are the Wifi and WWAN separate ? Would it be possible to buy just a set of antennas for the WWAN without touching the WiFi ones ? Thank you so much for your help and wisdom haha !

Hi there! I can say for certain that the WiFi and WWAN antennas are separate. Unfortunately, I don't know if you can buy the WWAN antennas separately. Maybe universal WWAN ones are available. You could then route them through the hinges or something. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help!

Interesting i didn't know I could upgrade the WiFi 6E but PCI storage yes you can upgrade 4TB max on the laptop and memory RAM to 64GB DDR4 max (2x32)

Great video, thanks for the tutorial. I plan on upgrading my WiFi card too. If you wanted to use a WWAN card instead, how do I know if my model will work? I have the sim card slot by the battery too. I however do not see WWAN listed in device manager. I want to get a WWAN card so I can have 4G LTE data when out and about. Other's have said I need to take the screen apart to check for antenna wires, is this true?

If you open it up and see loose wires around the area where I installed the SSD in this video, then you have antennas in there. BUT my understanding is that Lenovo has a "whitelist" of WWAN cards that will work with the T480, likely preventing generic ones you find on sites like ebay from working. Unfortunately, I do not have access to a list of whitelisted WWAN hardware, but scouring the Thinkpad subreddit for information may help a lot.

Thank You very much for Your video! I tried to put in a KingSpec M.2 Sata 1 TB SSD 42mm in the WWAN slot. It fitted well but it was not recognized neither by the system, UEFI, Windows...Where could be my mistake?

@@stefan38 hello, SATA is your issue. You need PCIe 3x2 and not SATA.

Most likely yes, BUT you'll have to check if the port takes a PCIe 3x2 (B-keyed) or PCIe 3x4 (M-keyed) SSD, especially since it's a lot newer than the T480 and T580. Cheers

T580 doesn't seem to have a whitelist, only for WWAN, I think.

i have same laptop did i add sechond ssd on the wwan port but is not detected in windows, device manager and also in bios... Do you have any ideea why..:? SSD is from Transdata is new and tested in other laptop on wwan m2 port and is working...:)

Is your m.2 drive SATA or PCIe? That might be the issue, since the T580 only takes PCIe cards. If that's already the case, then I'd suspect the WWAN port isn't functioning properly. EDIT: Worth checking if a disable WWAN setting is in the BIOS and activated

I don't have the means to do a video at the moment, but steps are: remove the metal bar from under the key, reinstall the bar on the laptop, and just press/clip the key down.

The internal battery is automatically reenabled when you connect the laptop charger.

Yup, that's what I did here. Just have to make sure it's a PCIe 3x2 m.2 SSD with a slot on the B label (see card close-up in video) and not a newer PCIe 3x4 one with a slot on the other side.

Yes! You can pretty much follow the same steps as the T580's.

@@ahafeezs Not much as long as you have another computer/machine to download the driver with and a USB drive to transfer it to your laptop. It's just a matter of convenience.

@@ChezDoesStuff So pre-installing the new driver won't removed the existing driver? Just incase there's a need to rollback.

@@ahafeezs That won't be a problem. The Wi-Fi 6 driver is independent of the old Wi-Fi driver, in my experience. I was able to use the old card when I temporarily transferred the Wi-Fi 6 card to another machine for a while.
