DIY trash compactor

Overfilled garbage bin??? No problem. Just DIY a trash compactor!
After a year of use, I’m glad to report that trash never gotten stuck inside the bin. No trash or bags exploded. Thats also because the garbage bin are shaped and designed to have a smaller base.

I can see your fence flexing. Might want to beef it up or mount the compactor on it's own platform. Maybe something you wheel your bin onto and then crush.

mine is a water heater filled with concrete that is held over the garbage can with a car engine lifter

Careful not to over pack. Trash man may not be able to get tightly packed-in stuff at the bottom

With all that compacted garbage, how well does it fall out of the bin when the garbage truck comes by?

many times it wont and the pick up guy is left shaking the hydraulics to empty is

I’m glad you asked. After a few years of testing it out, I’ve never had any problems or stuck garbages in the bin.

Step 1. Throw a couple dirt clods on it then put it over on the clean grass area. Then start the video.

yea need more solid place to mount it though. fence is not gonna last.

I would anchor that thing to the foundation. Wood is weak..

A similar item used for trailer lift will also work. They sell a cheap manual hand crank version or upgrade to an electric.

of course you neglect the fact that this ends up wedging stuff in the can so it doesnt dump out. seems like a lot of hassle to add a couple bags. just leave lid open and add the bags on top morning of pick up. add extra bags to neighbors can...simple
