Organized modular tool and hardware storage in the back of my work vehicle.
Trying to find something in a unorganized environment is always a pain, so i had to come up with a better solution.
This modular solution fits my needs perfectly, because each tool box can be removed and these box's are stack-able so you can always add more box's on top as you would need more storage.
Future upgrade possibilities include building the frame up so you can have a big flat drawer on top or even another set of these slides with tool box's.
Please feel free to subscribe if you liked this video and ring that bell so you can get notified when I upload future videos.

The BEST DIY sliding truck bed on KZfaq hands down. I've been looking for a commercial product that integrates modular tool boxes with a sliding bed and they don't exist. As far as I know, you are the only person to have successfully produced one. Also many of the commercial bed slides are about 4" tall thereby wasting a lot of space. That is their biggest drawback aside from price with many products > $1000 usd. Your 'split bed' idea is also unique, though having a larger slide out floor would allow me to store my collapsable table saw and mitre box. Adding a handle that allows the unit to lock in position might be cool. Overall, very well done indeed.
@cooksy2705

For more context, Dewalt (and others) make a stackable tool box/organizer whereby all the boxes can 'click' together on a standup, roll-away unit with large wheels and a handle. It would be great, for instance, if there were such a device that allowed you to, say, remove the tool boxes from the sliding bed and stack them together on a roller. Sooooo truck bed to roll-away kinda thingie. LOL.

This is crazy man!!! I bought my truck last spring and went on the hunt to find a decent way to build a slide but only found ones that would fall apart in short order the way I use my truck so for the past 6 months I’ve been planning and gathering materials because I’m doing it on a limited budget but I started building it a month ago and worked on it again yesterday trying to finish cutting the last couple pieces and welding them up today. Our designs are very, very similar buddy. I’ve been worried about how it was gonna work cause a couple guys said it won’t work like that but I knew better. Yours looks like it’s working well so mine should also. I did see the other comment bout adding a few more bearings so I may try that and will let you know if it works. I appreciate your videos and hope you put more out, take care!!
@thewoodenfactor9941
@thewoodenfactor9941 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Don. Thanks for the awesome comment. Nice to hear from someone else also building the same thing. Would love to see how yours turns out! Mine is still working perfectly. Haven’t gotten to adding a few extra bearings yet, but my load doesn’t change much so it hasn’t really been an issue yet. Maybe just consider the amount of weight you’ll have on the front of the drawer when fully pulled out. You might start feeling a bit of flex in the frame, this will mainly depend on the stock you’re using for the drawer runner. Mine was fairly thin to try and save on weight. This doesn’t affect me at all though because in my specific setup it rests on the tailgate if I ever need to bring it out that far. I realized the best part this past weekend when I needed to take it out and it was only 2 screws, that’s it. Hope you have an awesome time building yours! Cheers

A video specifically about truck bed pull-outs, (which were well done, for sure), and my favorite part was the ladder bracket... BTW: I don't know if it's a generic name or the name of a specific brand, but I've always known those threaded inserts as a "nut-sert". (Not sure how that would actually be spelled, but ya, a nutsert. (Because you're basically inserting a nut into the metal panel.)

Hey guy.First thing, great job u did. I really like the simplicity and tightness of the ladder rack as well. Questions - did i miss how you secured it so it doesnt pull all the way out? What about that flex factor when extending it past that certain point, where it looks like it might be dragging on the tailgate? How does that affect it? Enough that u did something about it? Did u make a platform on top of these? If so, did u post a video on it? As time went on, what have you found that worked out very well, and in opposition, what might u have done differently? Thanks for sharing. Aloha ;)

Thanks Jeremy. Yes, I built it in a way that I can do exactly that for a future build. I thought of almost doing the same thing but just two big flat platforms pulling out so anything additional like power tools and so can also be loaded on top and also be pulled out with ease.

Maybe use cam followers. Top eccentric and bottom fixed. That way you can adjust eccentric followers down on sliding frame. Tack nut on back side of plate for threaded potion of followers and drill large enough hole for nut to go through. Then weld plate on on frame.
