By adding the two together he increased the cutting surface area, reducing the effectiveness of the axe.

Love to know how the long-term use of the device turned out! Those welds should have been deeper into the metal and then refilled but otherwise I thought this was a great experiment

Youve increased the cutting surface area by 2x, meaning you have 4x less pressure, which is what is needed for splitting.

Doesn't this work against the design of how an axe works? Like, fundamentally, axes and other cutting tools minimize the area the forces is being delivered to so you get much more force in that narrow area, but this doubles the contact area, so shouldn't it be half as effective?

Very clever. I wish that I had that axe at the homestead. The nice thing about wood is that it heats you 3 times. One when bucking logs two when you stack it Three when you put in your stove/fireplace

This is good for grinding woods, cuz a normal axe will take 2 hits to split a wood to 4 pieces, but twin axe can instantly split a wood to 4 pieces, but its useless when it comes to cutting trees,

As much as some people might think, no a twin axe is not a good idea. Because you still hit the wood with the same force, but you need to split twice as much of an area, the effort you are doing will be halved, meaning you’ll need to hit much stronger. And doing twice the effort at once consumes more energy than doing it in 2 separate cuts

For everyone say that this ax is useless, it’s not. It is an actual product you can buy with the blades in a cross shape. It does what the video shows at the end, split wood into four pieces. But for the love of god please do not make your own by ruining two perfectly good axes, just buy one of the cross head axes

Mounted the head upsidedown tho, longer "fang" of the head was pointing up. I would say that's not as good for the traditional chopping role as it could be knocked loose from odd toque but that went out the window when you welded another axe to it

Those “welds” look like stacked tacks…
ZetsuboSuru_Ttv 11 сағат бұрын
@Tony Alston yup. You are right on that. All that “weld” (tacts) will eventually break off. Good welds penetrate through and through thats why you hold the trigger or rod in and cruise. Don’t keep tapping it that will only get you fired at a real welding place.
ZetsuboSuru_Ttv 11 сағат бұрын
@Tony Alston you are wrong on that I worked structural welding and used MIG. Used flux and pulse arcing to
Tony Alston
Tony Alston 11 сағат бұрын
@Funky Games I would've used pulse mig or stick for penetration. I think he's just a hobby welder though.
Funky Games
Funky Games 11 сағат бұрын
@Tony Alston looks can be deceiving. Yes, it doesn’t look bad, but with welding like that, you get no actual penetration, which means it’s really weak. Over time and use that “weld” will crack and the material will literally peel away. A proper weld would be the strongest part of the axe

TReXcuRRy 7 күн бұрын
Heh, there's a reason why this contraption is not a thing. It's easy to align your swing sideways, but hard to align it further/closer from you. You would rarely cut it in 4 equal quarters with this..! Also, last minute you put the head upside down bro! Cool music tho 🤣
