In this video I show how I improved (simplified Google Cardboard V2.0) by reducing the the used parts so that they fit on two A4 papers while supporting up to 6" smartphones like the Galaxy Note 5 or Nexus 6.

I just want to let you know that this is one of THE best DIY videos I have watched for ANYTHING! The music was awesome and set the mood, complete detail in the instructions, and your modifications makes it easy. I like the part about "I broke my glue gun". Thanks for a killer DIY video. i made it and it works great, thank :). for the screen tap i used a defferent method. i cut a piece of cardboard the shape of a comma "," pointy at the bottom and thick at the top so it doesn't fall inside, i made sure it reaches the screen, and wrapped it with foil. and i made a U shaped cut on the google cardboard with the uncut side towards the screen to maintain some recoil. and it worked good.

i use a sony expria XZ. that works fine but have to figure out how to focus as everything is blurry even when i wear my glasses lol. Bought an immerse plus for £2.50 But no focus controls and no screen clicker and the phone is too close to the lenses so cant focus. So working on a homemade headset so i can experiment to get the right distance so i can see clearly. Have to keep the phone compartment open at the mo so i can have the phone further away so i can see it clearer and so i can get my finger in to touch the screen. What ill probably do is use the lenses from it to use in the cardboard im going to make. Ill modify the cardboard so the phone compartment slides in and out to get the focus right.

Cardboard app can not detect the qr code. when I skipped and started , the 2 windows does not merge when viewed through the cardboard

+Arnab Roy That's correct. The qr works on simple web-based version, for a quick test. The app configures automatically, no need to scan qr.

But I am not getting VR experience. I see 2 objects at the same time. Right amd left sided screen does not merge

+Arnab Roy That's how this vr works. Each eye gets an image. When you put it on, you should have vr experience.

+Joel James Good question. I believe it's different for every smartphone due to ppi value of every screen being different. Every type of smartphone would require its own profile.

do lenovo k4 note work with this and google cardboard app and all other . iam asking it because it has the theater max technology . but screen resoulution 1080 by 1920 at ppi of401 pixels per inch . do it work efficiently ???. thanks.

+Sloatch O Forgot to add a link for lenses. It's now in the description :) There are different type of VR lenses available, make sure you read the reviews. Some lenses have a focal length which is only good for 6" displays and not anything lower.

u can make ur own lenses just using a plastic bottle and water. Use the top of the bottle to make circles in the most curved part of the bottle. u need 4 bits. cut out the 4 circles. take 2 glue them then place them under water so the water gets trapped inside then put the 2 bits together. done. There is a few vids on youtube that show how they r made.

I don't think that'll work. You could try some other type of glue.

ah which lenses the one you gave in the discription or 25 mm diameter with 45 mm focal length one ?. but the 251 would fit in this one properly or not ? ah can you list any phones which can work with it efficiently with a lower price please . thank you very much for the previous answer and again you have done a good job man. best of luck

+Vasudev Rao I've decided to make a video about this subject, because many have questions about this. But in general a phone up to 6" would fit and best quality VR experience would be by using a QHD display.

+Mahesh Kumawat That means your lenses are not in the correct distance to your eyes. Try placing the lenses on the inside of cardboard (closer to screen) or the outside (closer to your eyes).

+Mahesh Kumawat That only happens due to incorrect distance of lenses. You'll need to modify the cardboard so that it's a better fit. It doesn't mean that it should be closer. Might need to be further. Depending on your eyes.

+Mahesh Kumawat The template works in most cases but depending on your eyes it might need adjustment for the distance between your eyes and the screen.

Great video but I have a question. When I tried to print out using A4 as directed, the outline/border of the diagram is cut off. (printing by actual size). Then I printed out and clicked print by fit, it comes out perfectly however, it is a bit smaller. Would you be able to tell me the width or length of the goggle diagram (2nd page). Much thanks

okay quick question man would you be okay with me using this template cuz I have been selling cardboard it looks like this fixes all the major issues I was having also have you tried putting a hole in the side to use as a touch button and making it black on the inside

+TheValentino1998 Oculus Rift is also one of my favorite, but it's also on another playing field. Keep in mind that while the Oculus Rift is a much better quality VR experience it also demands a good computer to work properly. The advantage of VR Cardboard would be that it's mobile and low cost while giving you a nice DIY project to work on :)

+harsh borderwala Test the lenses by keeping it close to your eye and your smartphone a few centimetres away. If it's visible then your focal length is good.

thanks it works.. i used a normal magnifying lense of 40mm diameter and around 80mm focal length.. and it is working great.. it costs only 0.3 dollar from a stationary

+harsh borderwala Yea, it's difficult to make a good switch. Aluminum worked fairly good for me. Maybe you need to reposition it a bit. The official Google cardboard uses a magnet. You could just swipe a refrigerator magnet on the side, see if that works.

I don't believe it will, but you might be able to change the design slightly to make it fit.

If you increase the length without enlarging the rest of the cardboard, then it should work, but if you enlarge the whole template then the lens will not fit.

Very Nice Job, its so easy now, i tried with DIY kit but it didnt end up well, after following your instructions i just removed the extra parts from the project i created and it worked like charms. Only issue i find is the quality of videos which are little blurry and its heard to read anything while viewing . not sure if the distance between lenses and phone needs to be some specific value. Please share if you have figured out how to make the videos crisp and clean for viewing. Great Job anyway and thanks for sharing with all.

+Sarabjeet Singh Yes for clear view the lens distance needs to be adjusted. Try the lens on the inside or the outside of the cardboard. That's a difference of a view millimeters but could help. Otherwise try adding cardboard and then glue the lens on top.

Thanks for responding, i did add a small vertical cardbaord cushion to both sides of rear end to hold the phone straight without compromising the viewing area, before it was leaning more towards inside while closing the rear door with velcro and that was causing the blurriness i believe. Now its just added few mm distance between phone and lenses and its working fine now with phone staying straight. Also added the touch button as you've shown with slight modification and it works like a charm now.

That's one of the reasons I created the version 3.0. The M9 has a 5" display so you'll need to add that middle part as I showed around 7:55. Good luck! :)

Mine are about 34mm. But you can cut smaller or bigger. Just place the lens on the cardboard and draw a circle around it as shown in the video. If you then cut on the inside then the lens could fit without glue. Good luck.

+Vasudev Rao best to always ask your question under the concerning video. As mentioned in that video a full HD display 1080p would still show pixels up close, but looking at the low cost of VR cardboard it would be worth the try.

+Ishan Garg Both have a resolution of 720x1280, which is a bit low for VR. You'll be able to see the pixels clearly.

It would work on Xiaomi Prime because it has the Gyro sensor. J5 doesn't have the gyro sensor.
