DIY WALL ART | Broken Mirror Christmas Tree

Hello friends! If you've been here for a while, you know this is my SECOND broken-mirrored Christmas Tree! However, this one is completely different & a whole NEW level of glam. Follow along for an adventure!
Have you ever made wall art from broken glass? If so, let me know in the comments how it went AND which Christmas tree you like better!!
STEPS:
1. Gather/prep supplies
2. Attach hardware to back
3. Break mirror
4. Separate pieces by size
5. Use chalk to make line
6. Outline shape of Christmas tree
7. Lay glass out on the board
8. Look for pieces that fit like a puzzle
9. Glue pieces down with mastics
10. Let dry (overnight)
11. Mix grout and Apply grout
12. Use sponge to smooth grout and create level finish
13. Remove grout from tops of mirrors and let set
14. Let dry overnight
15. Hang it on wall

There's an old sayin in house design, "The first one for someone else, the second one for a friend, and the third one, for yourself." Along those lines, you found out what you liked and what you'd do different, on the next one. Although I like the way the first one has it's peices clse together, the openess of the second one looks more natural. I also like how the natural openess reflects the three trees in front of the arched windows! I don't think you need me to comment on the star, but I will - it is stunning!!! High marks from me - and I will be creating a smaller version for myself!😃🎄

I love the new one because of the embellishments but also I love the new star even without the broken glass. Just the overall shape of the star is beautiful !! Thanks for doing this, I remember you saying it took nearly a week. It truly is beautiful

This broken mirror Christmas tree needs to be mass produced for the rest of us! I absolutely LOVE the three dimension star on the second one! I was wondering how to store it without breaking the star...just attach a small cardboard box around the star with lots of tissue paper.

I saw someone else on KZfaq attempt a copy of your mirrored tree. I've gotta say she missed the mark. Nobody does it like Rebecca. She took so many shortcuts proving that if you want something done well and the results to be stunning, take the time and effort to do things right. I have to say your mirror art is impressive. The star is truly inspired. The whole thing is just breathtaking.

I love the second one! It just looks more airy and delicate, and quite symmetrical. I find the first one was nice, but it had too many big chunks of mirror. And the star you created on the second one, just simply breathtaking! You are one creative lady😊

I made my broken-mirror Christmas tree in 2019 and I love love love it. I spent about a week arranging the pieces however. Stand back and look again and again. That's the fun part, the designing.

First, let me say you are AMAZING, and you are my favorite (as the grandkids say). I love both the trees, but the more I look at them the more I like the newest one. First I like the branches going up like nature (praising God). The branches going down look like a tree too weighted down and not very healthy. I love the space in the new tree. The more you look at it, the more it looks like it is loaded with snow. I loved the glitz and glam in the new tree, and the 3-d effect...but I don't see it in the finished product?? Maybe that is just because of my small computer screen. All in all, they are both so beautiful and stunning. It thrills me to see how God has kept you and blessed you even thru the hard seasons of your life. Thank you for blessing so many millions of people. WOW!

Rebecca, I can't help it! I feel like a little child in anticipation of Christmas morning. By the way, I was born on Christmas at 4:00 a.m. in the morning in 1951. I love Christmas. I decorate all my rooms in the house. Using various themed & size trees, multiple nativity scenes, wreaths, and lights, I go overboard. So, when I make my mirror tree, I'll have close to 100 trees. Yeah!

@ Cynthia Jones, your parents had double blessings on Christmas then! My parents Anniversary was on Christmas Eve! It always felt more magical, more love all around! My b.d. Is on Valentine’s Day! I’m sure your home looks so beautiful with all the trees, Nativity scenes and all!! I’d love to see all of your trees & how they’re decorated! I’m sure they’re gorgeous!! Well I just recently broke a mirror so perhaps it is a sign to not freak out about the 7 years bad luck superstition and make a broken mirror xmas tree! Love those! I actually like the 2nd the most.

I originally made mine jujed out. I premixed glitter with my grout and it came out all sparkly and nice. Unfortunatly, it eventually was damaged and had to throw it out because like you did here, i used a piece of wood that bowed and cracked the grout. lesson learned.

I like the new one. You could fill those spaces with colored glass . Take crafters wooden ornaments and glue colored glass onto them and attach to the tree spaces. They come in lots of shapes. If you like the monochromatic mirror, just cover the shapes in the left over crushed glass of different sizes.

IT IS SO PRETTY. I HAVE BROKE MIRRORS FOR PROJECTS BEFORE AND THEY ARE A LOT OF FUN TO WORK WITH. ONE THING I HAVE FOUND TO DO IS COVER THE MIRROR WITH CHEESE CLOTH BEFORE BREAKING IT. THIS WILL INSURE THAT YOU WON'T HAVE FLYING GLASS. LOL LOVING THIS PROJECT.

I agree with your statement about putting the pieces more closer together. I like the first one more e side of how close the mirror pieces are, but I also like the second one where you did more flaring our on the tree and the star instead of bow.

OOOOOOHHHHHHH, How pretty!!!! Both trees have merit so I cannot choose. I do hope you refit the first tree with glitz and find a way to repair the board. Surely something can be done??? Maybe place it in such a way that the damaged edge can be disguised by other objects??? Thank you for a fun tutorial!! Blessings!

Love both versions of project! 😍 The great thing about adding the canvas in back this time is it gives the space in back to grab an LED strip and have piece back lit.

I am SO EXCITED for your Christmas videos to begin!! Your 1st Christmas videos are some of the 1st KZfaq videos I ever watched! Your opening sequence w music etc makes my heart race!!! Thank you for all the time you spend making these videos. Ok, it is hard to choose between the OG and the new mirror tree. The OG fits my home’s style, but that new glam tree is SPECTACULAR!!!

I want the glass from the first tree I love the star from the second tree and I love the little glass pieces you put on the top of the branches on the second piece so I would put all those things in one and it'd be the perfect tree thank you I love them both

I did the broken mirror on the perimeter of an oval, two tier coffee table, And it turned out Gorgeous. I used an old towel on top of the mirror as I smashed. In it's original state, my thrifted table was cherry stained. I used white paint and primer to paint.

I like this tree better than the old one. Maybe one more branch was needed on the left, in the middle. But it's still impressive. I would also like a frame. Smaller tree and a mirror frame.I know is a difficult kind of art, but in future maybe you could show us more themes using this technique. Thank you. I will try it.
