This is a great project, but The only thing I would have done differently was, rather than screwing in the bottom where the power cords are, I would have put a hing in place for better accessibility and possibly hidden storage.

A true DIY knows that even stuff that look professional or very complicated can be modified in the process to make it more simple to do. This build can be completely done with just a drill, a circular saw, a jigsaw and normal materials like screws, wood, sandpaper, etc. The laminate can be omitted and simply paint it or apply white wood stain, two coats and then wipe on polyurethane.

I think the best way to learning is by making mistakes. That way you know not to make the same mistake again. That's why they say practice makes perfect. But I can honestly say I've never seen a video where someone called out their own mistakes. That tells a lot. Even if he messed up a bunch, his work speaks for itself. Working in the electrical and a/v field, products are constantly changing with the technology and I still learn new things on the job everyday.

Thanks for sharing about the heat gun, but here's a hint... If you are worried about the intensity of a heat gun, try a blow dryer for hair. The multiple temperature settings allow you to switch back and forth to increase or decrease the temperature. I only switch to a heat gun if I find the blow dryer not hot enough. 💜🌞🌵

Excellent project, well done. I like you're including your near misses on some issues, makes me feel like I'm not the only one. For your next dream desk, instead of the vinyl, I'd like to see some sort of formica or similar surface treatment, or maybe use a premade countertop narrowed down (front to back) with a bullnose front edge. Again, excellent project!

The finished look is spectacular, the back lighting using LED strips was a nice touch, and the USB ports and outlets are always useful. This project had a lot going on as far as planning, tools and execution. I like the way he makes mistakes and corrects them along the way, he doesn't edit them out of his video. I would prefer the cupholder mounted in right rear of the desk for to maximize space, but that is my opinion, plus he asked what we would have done differently. I only wish I could find the time to do a project similar to this in the future. The magnetic picture/poster wall hanging system is a interesting and cool idea, thanks for sharing. OVER 5M views and 2.85M subscribers.. WOW congrats my friend !!

There's nothing more satisfying than spending the day making something. Of course you ending up swearing a lot, scratching your head trying to figure something out, asking 'why tf did i do that?', and losing items you though you put down somewhere specific - but at the end of the day you look at it and it makes all the headaches disappear! Every news project increases your skill set. I've only made about 5 items but the things I've learned just from those is quite a lot!

I'm sure you've heard this 20 times already but depending on space restrictions, I'd try to make it slide inside the wall and when it's inside, the outside trim could be artwork so to blend in and conceal the desk better. Would be a great idea for one of those tiny homes people are building these days.

This is an amazing project and video! I used that same marble style contact paper on the counters in my kitchen. I learned a great tip before I did it from another KZfaq video. Spray the adhesive side lightly with Windex before applying it. This will allow you to move it around before it dries and get those bubbles out much easier. Those wall brackets are quite small, curious to see how it's still holding up. I would have suggested some longer and thicker ones.

I was looking for solid surface floating desk when I stumbled upon your video. In the beginning of it,your desk really looked like it was made out of Corian. Anyways it looked really beautiful. Nice Job Very Well Don.

@ DIY Creators. Great project. I am thinking to maybe do it with stone. Being a serious home remodeler I would put an outlet behind your wall panel (if it is your house) and use a wall recessed outlet. Some call it a clock box. If and when I do the project I will let everyone know where the original idea came from.
