If you haven't made DIY Whipped Tallow Balm, you need to give this a try. Natural skincare products can get expensive, but you can make this recipe for just a few dollars. Tallow is wonderful for our skin as the composition of tallow is so similar to our sebum. Tallow is incredibly hydrating and absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving a greasy residue. It is rich in vitamins A, D, E & K. This tallow balm recipe is great for most skin types and can help with a variety of skin issues.
DIY Whipped Tallow Balm Recipe:
1/2 cup Tallow
2 tbsp Olive Oil
Essential Oils (Optional)
Melt tallow over medium low heat. Add to a bowl with olive oil and let cool until it has solidified. You can speed up this process by putting the bowl in the fridge or freezer for just a few minutes. In a stand mixer or with a handheld mixer, beat the mixture on low, slowly increasing to high. Beat until the tallow mixture is light, fluffy, and white in color.
Oil Substitutions:
Feel free to use an alternate oil based on your skin type or preference. Jojoba Oil, Rosehip Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Argan Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, and Grapeseed Oil are some other options.
A Note on Essential Oils:
Consider how you intend to use this tallow balm recipe before adding essential oils. It is important to avoid using essential oils around the eyes. Citrus oils can be phototoxic, meaning if they are applied to skin which is then exposed to sunlight, a reaction such as a rash or red skin may occur.

Important to make sure it is grass fed or clean beef or the tallow will be tainted

I'm sure the beauty skin products on store shelves are much more tainted than skin cream made from tallow that has come from grass fed, grain finished beef. Not everyone has access or can afford grass fed but still a better choice than skin cream full of chemicals from store shelves.
@Caleb-vy4kk
@Caleb-vy4kk Ай бұрын
Has anyone on the “grass fed grass finish” train considered the fact that pastures and any type of planted grass (for colder months) has to be fertilized and chemically sprayed with a herbicide to prevent weeds from taking over? And fertilize is made by extracting raw materials (potassium and phosphorus) and chemically mixed with nitrogen turned into a powder then compressed into a granular form. As a prime angus beef producer, there is absolutely nothing wrong with supplementing beef with grain. As far as grass fed having more Omega 3’s, that would be a fact. But it’s STILL only a fraction of what your body needs per day. So you still are required to get your fatty acids from another source. Here’s another tidbit of info, grass fed cattle must walk and walk….and walk and walk to consume their 3% of food per day. It takes so much longer for that steer (or heifer) to get up to proper weight for any processor. (Usually around 1,300-1,400lbs) our steers reach processing weight in 16 months and are MUCH more tender, plus grade prime. The flavor is better and you can even cut the sirloins with a fork. If you ask a meat cutter or butcher what a better beef is, they will tell you grain. If you ask a social media influencer, they will tell you grass fed. The choice is yours to make. But that’s why Prime beef is much more expensive than choice or select.

Hi, Abbey... Thanks for sharing this tallow balm recipe. I have combination skin. So I made this recipe with combination oils n split it into two. In the first half, I add arrowroot powder n I find it less oily n setter on my skin during the day. While in the other half I just leave it as it is n use it at night. Both of them give me automatically glowing skin!!! Oh there is a fun fact about it, someone smells me using the tallow like a meat ball. Yummy isn't it?🤣🤣🤣 I consider it as a compliment 😁

I have so much rendered tallow jarred up. So easy to render in a crockpot or even an IP. I am lucky enough to still have a real butcher counter at one of our local grocers. If I give them a week, they will save the beef fat (or pig fat for lard) and I get it for about $2/pound. I just tell them how much I want. It renders down beautifully. So glad to see this video, had no clue I could do this. Does it need to be refrigerated after making or is it shelf stable?

Omg yes , I would love to see your process. I do have a question: With the amount of oil, does your skin get oily ? I have used oils on my skin, but not every day. And do you use it on just your face or as a body lotion as well ? I laughed when you said you rubbed meat on your skin 😂. But, you look like you have beautiful skin, so keep doing it 😍. God bless and stay safe 🙏 ❤️

Haha thank you! I don’t find it gets oily, it absorbs very well. You could leave out the olive oil you just won’t get quite as fluffy as a texture which is no big deal. I use it for everything! I've been rendering beef fat for tallow. It needs to be melted with water and salt then strained several times. The water and salt help to remove the beef smell and when strained with a double cheese cloth in a strainer it removes the impurities from the fat. You are left with very little smell and adding a touch of essential oils helps as well. Hope this helps ☺️

I'm looking into this for by daughter who has really bad skin problems. And I read that emu oil rebuilds the skin, is that something I could add to this ?
@abbeyverigin
@abbeyverigin 4 күн бұрын
Yes I’m sure! I haven’t tried adding emu oil to the tallow balm but I’m sure it would work great. I have used it alone as a face moisturizer in the winter or when I deal with eczema occasionally. It works wonders

Can you use vitamin c or E oil instead of the olive oil?? Just wondering! I’m so excited to try this recipe out
@abbeyverigin
@abbeyverigin 6 ай бұрын
I haven't tried it. Vitamin E oil is quite a bit heavier than olive oil so you might want to do a mix of the two. It should work if anything the texture might be a little heavier

Hi! Such a helpful video. Is it possible to use the tallow when I make bone broth for skincare?
@abbeyverigin
@abbeyverigin 8 ай бұрын
Hello! I’m glad it was helpful. I’m sure you could but I feel like it would potentially be more beef-y smelling since it cooked with the bones vs just the fat rendering if that makes sense
@peacefulpasturessanctuar-qc2fe
@peacefulpasturessanctuar-qc2fe 7 ай бұрын
Absolutely, purify first with water and salt to cleanse of beefy odour. There will still be a light odour, but is dissipates shortly after being rubbed in the skin.

Does this tallow have you walking around perpetually smelling like beef or like olive oil? I am trying to find a way to moisturize with beef tallow but not walk around smelling like food. I am also a man so I would like to avoid feminine scents as well
@abbeyverigin
@abbeyverigin 2 ай бұрын
I don't find that it does at all but it really depends on how it was rendered. If it is rendered at too high a temp then yes it can smell beefy, low and slow is the best way to go. If I add essential oils its just to add a scent not to cover up the scent of the tallow

I made tallow balm, but it leaves a greasy sheen on my skin when I spread it on. I used organic castor oil instead of olive oil. The balm I’ve bought in the past from a tallow skincare company does not spread on greasy. What am I doing wrong?
@abbeyverigin
@abbeyverigin 6 ай бұрын
Castor oil might just be too heavy of an oil or you could be using too much of it

It shouldn't take too long, maybe a few minutes. You could try freezing it again before mixing. It may have to do with the heat if it's warm where you live. Sorry for the late reply!

@@abbeyverigin thank you for your reply! I actually warmed it all back up to liquid and made sure there was not water left because I used the wet method for rendering. It is definitely better and made good lotion, but the tallow is still a little soft at room temperature. I did not use grassfed or suet so I might try one of those just to see if there's a difference.

doesnt heating up the tallow destroy some vitamins?
@abbeyverigin
@abbeyverigin 10 ай бұрын
To render tallow you are heating suet for a long time, so the tallow has already been heated. Some might be lost but it’s just a part of the process. To make the tallow balm we are heating this at a temperature lower than what would’ve been used to render the tallow.
