Great idea .... Have you thought of using a bull nose router bit and cutting a sot or channel on the outside surface of the 3 front and 2 rear long blocks so that the rope is recessed into the sides of the mat? Also two larger holes half way through the smaller end rear pieces so that the knots are also recessed- giving a "cleaner" professional look? Also if you soak the rope in water it might stretch out a bit, then as it dries and shrinks the rope joints will be a bit tighter... Tight is Right?

Great video! I've been following your work on Instagram and love it. I think a neat way to make this project a bit less rustic and more of a contemporary look would be adding wood dowels rather than the rope. This way the end pieces would have holes that wouldn't be drilled all the way through giving it c leaner look from the outside. I'll send a photo once I make it!

So I just found this video and I have one question: is it slick when it gets wet? I need a dog-proof back door mat, and this looks like it might work, but I'm afraid I would end up busting my butt every time it rains. Have you had any experience w/this?
