It's very possible to do this quite safely. However, I would recommend doing a lot of research, being very careful, and not doing it if you don't feel comfortable.

@@CeeJayThe13th the machine just wasn't really made for stress in the direction perpendicular to the blade. At the very least, you risk damaging the machine. editing to add the fact that only one edge of the blade is sharpened. Unless you're going to manually sharpen the actual cutting edge here, you'd be cutting with a dull edge

@@uply5FOi the machine isn't expressly designed for this specific task, true. And someone who doesn't know what they're doing could injure themselves or damage their equipment. However, it's been done for a hundred years and I've never heard of either of those things happening from using this specific technique. What makes it more acceptable is the fact (which you mentioned) of it not being a through-cut. If you tried making a through-cut like this, you would very much be begging for trouble. I agree that just anybody shouldn't run out and do this without being experienced and learning what to do and not do! Also, modern circular saw blades (except for specific ones like "flat bottom" blades) generally have the carbide cutting teeth oriented in alternating directions. That would put at least half of the teeth cutting on the side where you're pushing in from. Honestly, I don't think there's nearly as much stress being put on the machine in this operation as you appear to think. If you really forced your workpiece through, you could probably do some damage but if you let the tool do its job I don't really think it will. This is just me speaking from experience. I am not an engineer or anything. To be totally honest, I don't really think I'd want to perform this operation much myself. Maybe a couple of times just to see how it goes. But, I'm not afraid that if I did I'd ruin my saw and my fingers. Again, I'd like to reiterate that if you don't feel comfortable DON'T DO IT! That's not for you but anybody who happens to read this.

@@CeeJayThe13th parts such as bearings are made to take sustained force in some directions better than others. Putting your table saw through lateral stress could be problematic for the drive train. About the teeth: just because some teeth are pointed in the direction of the cut doesn't mean that they can do it effectively. Teeth are sharpened on the top. Sharpening on the sides wastes time (and thus money) for the manufacturer. The fact that the teeth lean side to side is to create clearance for the blade so it doesn't bind.

As long as you keep good pressure on it there’s nothing to cinch the blade I don’t see why it would kick back

There are special saw blades (more like router discs) to perform this cut and NOT a regular saw blade...

Would a millling machine be better? Turn it in an angle 60° it should work too and is saver

Why? Cutting concave shapes with a tablesaw is absolutely doable. Aligning the fence so all concaves are an equal distance is the hardest part

@@jeroenroks4life it's just wild looking. I use a tablesaw pretty often and you're used to doing everything in straight lines and at 90° angles so it's wild seeing it. It's not that I can't believe it it's just that it's crazy looking.

He's putting the wood at an angle to the blade so instead of making an equal-depth thin line cut, he's cutting a semi-circle into the wood. Don't try this unless you're experienced, it can be dangerouse
