I have just picked one of these up today and I have seen a couple of good videos on putting together the posts and the roof panels but this is one of the best ones for erecting the structure. Mine will be on a uneven existing stone patio so I will use a laser level to work out the different levels and cut the posts to the correct heights by trimming the bottoms accordingly (they vary by up to 100mm) as it’s the levelness of the top that is most importance to get the roof right.

I have this same unit and was very impressed with the fit, I could not believe how easy it went together. Only negative is the metal on the roof faded with the exception of the rails that connected the roof panels. Love it.

We have a 12x12 we’re about to start building. This gives a good feel for what we’re getting into. I was trying to think of what we’d use to assemble the roof then in your vid saw those tables. Brilliant. We have 2 of those as well and should work great.

Jim, I dont work on the floor, which most people do when they build those roof panels. I am too old to be crawling around with all that stuff. So yes, the tables were great. If you dont have 4 people building this, make sure you have a 10ft 2x4 with you. Also, I just built a tounge and groove wall for my gazebo and it came out amazing. Even the stain was a perfect match. I will be uploading that video next week after I finish editing it. It will be going to our new DIY channel called DIY Project Guys. Head over there and subscribe so you get notified when I post it over there. I wont be posting anymore DIY videos on this channel (Plant Based Dads) as this will just be for vegan cooking from here on it. Thanks so much for watching. kzfaq.info/love/isv7Yw-hDMysF4Ia7gfPeA

@@PlantBasedDads sounds good, will check it out. I purchased a couple of the yardistry privacy panels but still need to assemble and install them. We did the main build this past weekend. Very nice.....Ive put up two of these exact gazebos. I want to tell everyone that are considering any of these gazebos, the corner posts are all hollow. You must drill throught the top of one of the corner posts about 8 inches deep, but if you can, you can run electrical up through the bottom out the top of the post. I currently run a string of led lights, bluetooth patio speakers and a wall switched controlled fan. Its quite simple so take advantage of that fact.

Impressive job! We are building the same here in Denver and this video is encouraging! Unfortunately, we also have to get both zoning and building permits which is just delaying the project. The structure will be anchored on 12" x 42" Sonatube concrete forms to reach the frost line (at 36") and also raise the base by up to 6" to protect from snow melt in Winter. At least that is the theory. The use of 2x4x10 was a great hint. Thank you!

Glad it helped! So I did the same thing. I purchased mine in the beginning of Covid so I had a project while I was at home. It sat in my garage for 4 weeks before I ever touched it. I spent night after night watching the same KZfaq videos. I thought it was going to be a disaster because it was just the two of us and our 13yr old son who cant do anything at all. I couldn't ask anyone for help because of the Covid thing. So, I expected complete failure. But, I also felt I had watched enough videos to know what to expect. After the slab was dry, we started by just assembling the frame the first weekend and it was simple. Then, during that next week, I assembled all the roof panels myself in the garage, one per day. They were really simple. That next weekend we took on the roof. It was the part I dreaded the most yet it went together very, very fast, No problems. I was prepared on how to lift up the other three panels to get the 4th panel in because of the videos I watched. And just like that, all 4 roof panels were on. You should be good if you watched our video and the other ones. If you don't have a guy on a ladder dealing with fitting the roof together, then you have to have a 10ft 2x4! You got this!! I also put up a video about some string lights I got at Costco. And, next Wednesday I am publishing a video of how I wired the thing with electric for the ceiling fan. Stay tuned!

I appreciate your words of encouragement! We have very similar situation. Two adults and one teenager! So I sent both of them your video so they know what to expect. They're on board! The string lights look very cool and doable! Can't wait for the ceiling fan video!

Plant Based Dads when I installed the Post Mount, it's not flushed against the post. When I placed the post in the upright position, the bottom of the post is not even touching the ground. The mount lifts it a bit. Do I need to worry about this? In fact, upon inspection of the Post Mount, it's not at a 90 degree angle.

Good day sir. Great job with the installation and what an awesome video for all of us to learn. I have one question regarding the footings. I noticed (and perhaps this was not filmed) that you did not bold or secure the posts onto the patio. Or did you and it just wasn't filmed? Are the metal brackets strong enough? I am planning to put this gazebo on an actual deck (composite) by my pool and have been debating how to secure the posts and give the entire gazebo some structural strength to survive high winds and potential hurricanes (I'm in NC). Thank you so much for any input.

You got this!! I did the roof panels myself in the garage one at a time over 4 days. I did one section a day for about 45-60mins a day for four days. Then it was two of us assembling the the frame on Saturday for 4 hours and then 3 of us putting the roof panels together on Sunday for 4 hours. It was worth all the effort. A year later, we still love it. I also have a video on how I wired it for a ceiling fan and installed an electrical box on the ceiling for string lights. Then, I have a video on our new DIY channel "DIY Project Guys" that shows me installing a privacy wall on one side of the gazebo out of shiplap. That was a great video, thank you for posting. 1 question, I haven't see it referenced on any other build video, how did you secure the posts to the concrete?
@PlantBasedDads
@PlantBasedDads 3 жыл бұрын
Rick, I didnt! Every time we have a monsoon, I run outside to see if the thing starts moving but it has not budged. It does weigh about 600lbs so really I am not expecting it to move. But, I do have to secure it eventually. That was why I had the concrete slab poured. It just got too hot here in Phoenix to work outside though. Next month, when the weather changes, i'll be doing a video on how I secured it when I actually secure it. Check out my lighting video and my fan/wiring installation video on that gazebo. Thanks for watching bro.

Frank. The one thing i wanted to show in the video was how we did that because i could not find another video that showed that problem and I knew we would have to deal with it. We followed the advice of the yardistry video and we had to bend the ridge caps and clip them around the two roof pieces. We bent them just far enough until we could get the ridge cap on. We should do a video with tips on how to install this thing.

For anyone thinking about pulling the trigger on yardistry products I am a contractor of 15 years with many professional gazebkos built by code ... I can't build this for 2100 w tax and if I did it would be out of pressure treated garbage not cedar . Overall very good quality materials and connection methods . This is built to last i would expect anyone to get at least 10yrs out of this . Pro tip ....buy some wood sealer and have it handy as you build coat any open edges with wood sealer and thank me in 5 years ! Protecting the exposed ends or cut ends with sealer will help any water from leaching into the wood overtime . Sealer $25 guaranteed to get you another few years of use !

I had not thought of that. I am headed out to the hardware store to get some wood sealer and to get it on there now before it rains. It has not rained since we build that thing almost 6 weeks ago. Thanks for the tip.

No prob ! 2 more tips here ...if you decide to cap the bottom of posts again to cover bolts and bracket ....use the brown pressure treated wood matches alot better than real cedar unless you orde rather stain yardistry sells no exp with that ...but I am impressed with the designs of yardistrys stuff they have alot of different gazebos /pergola/ arbor etc ....but one downside to the 12x14 gazebos is yardistry does not have an engineer stamp for the structure and this gazebo technically requires a permit (its over 108sq ft) and most city's have issues with the roof attachment or something like that ...I am in ontario by the way ! With no stamp its very difficult to even obtain a permit for some stuff .. Also the roof pies when anyone is assembling them the last step is the flashing that runs up the sides and covers tops dont put that on to tight leave it just slightly raised above roof panels and the ridge caps will slide in waaay easier .... Still a hard 8.5/10 in my opinion overall

@PlantBasedDads
@PlantBasedDads 4 жыл бұрын
Emmett, I have not anchored it yet. Its been sitting in the yard since may. I had a 4inch concrete slab poured. Since my slap was pored with a pitch, I had to have three of the posts be off the ground so they had to be shimmed. So, I am. not able to use the anchoring brackets that come with the posts on 3 of the posts. So I have to come up with something else. I will do a video when the temperature drops below 100 here in Phoenix. Until then , its not going anywhere because that thing is very heavy.

Hi Joey, this is a great video. I bought the same gazebo at Costco and built it on my back porch with one side leaning against the house, just like you. My question is, how did you install the roof ridge caps that are supposed to slide in from the outside corner of the roof? I wasn’t able to figure out a way to do it on the 2 corners leaning against the house.

James, every time someone asks me that I get sad. That was the one thing I wanted to know when I was getting ready to build this and of course, my camera did not film that part. I was really upset. I followed the instructions on the video by Yardistry. Its called Helpful Tips or something. They say to bend the ridge cap open, clip it on one side and bend it back into place. That is what we did on the two sides up against the house. Thanks so much for watching.

Hey Joey, thanks for sharing this video. The gazebo looks amazing and loved your new DIY project channel. I just recently bought the same gazebo from Costco and will be doing my own project this weekend. Question for you, how did you manage to install the ridgecap on the roof? It looks to me that two of the corners of the gazebo are against the wall close to your patio sliding door? I have a very similar situation on my own project? Trying to figure out the best solution. Your input would be highly appreciated. Ciao!

Hi Greg. If there was one thing I should have shown in that video its that! But, the camera did not record that part of the installation. Yardistry has a video where they tell you what to do. We had to take the ridge cap and bend it open about half way up the length of it. Then we were able to slide it on and bend that part of it back into place as we were putting it on. I wish we had gotten that part on video. It was my biggest concern when we were watching all these videos and nobody showed it. Thanks so much for watching

I have one these but what worry me most is laying the groundwork. Beyond the location where we want put it is a hill and we live in mountains with snow in winter so although we want concrete pad we also want to pour a three foot concrete form to use Simpson Ties, ect. How did you tie in the posts to the concrete pad? Thanks it’s great seeing your video it gives us confidence!
@PlantBasedDads
@PlantBasedDads 3 жыл бұрын
Hello. We have not connected it to the concrete slab yet. The posts come with mounts that are bolted into the posts and then directly into the concrete slab, so it does come pre-ready to anchor down to a slab. I will be doing a video on that eventually on the new DIY channel we have, "DIY Project Guys Channel". Thanks so much for watching.

Hello. We don't even go on the patio during them summer because it's just too hot outside overall. We are about to hit that time of year here in the next 3-4 weeks and then we wont use the patio again until late September or early October. I don't know if the gazebo makes the patio any hotter, but that tin roof aint helping it stay cool in any way. Thanks so much for watching.

I wish the camera had caught that part. We. had to bend the ridge caps open, slide one side on, and then bend it back into place around the other side of the ridge. It was not easy. But, it did work and it is keeping the rain out so its working well. Thanks so much for watching.

Eric, I loved it in the store. I love it at home. first, it was a nightmare to get home. I had to call a friend with a truck, and I HATE asking anybody to help me with anything. Assembling the roof panels was pretty simple in the garage. They went together in about 45 minutes each. But, the day we actually assembled all the parts of it on the patio was like 100 degrees and that was about 4 hours on Saturday to build the frame, and 4 hours on Sunday to install and secure the roof. The lifting and all that wasn't bad, but there are literally a thousand screws to this thing. So, that part got annoying, Still, we love it. Thanks so much for watching.
