Erik, you are the king of the deep dives and we want more!!!! The simpler the circuit, the more critical the choice of components is, which is why getting a Fuzz right is more than just selecting five components from the bin. I would LOVE to see a video with a simple circuit, like a fuzz, where you swap out some of the components to give the circuit a different flavor, even if it's the same component with a different tolerance. That would help folk like me get a better feel for the relationships between components.

The Angry Orange is our DS-1 project, but the DS-1 did use an op-amp. The DS-2 was an all-discrete distortion pedal, using "discrete op-amps" in its circuit. I believe the OD-3 also had the 5218 op-amps in them as well.

Im guttin a sony walkman and a rca one an aiwa one and a gpx one. The sonys got a bias on it I think the rca has a bass boost( ill do it into a bass pedal) . Ive just got in a double enclosure. Its not too hard( search and discover) to remove the cassette mech from the electronics. Ive made one once from a cheap chinese dollar store walkman. Put it into a nutone intercom box ( the size of a pedal) with the speaker. It could plug in and turn on, with the output jack it disconnected the speaker for a pedal. I seriesed the channels . it could start out clean and go all the way up to fuzz. Tone volume balance

And are there any good replacements for the THAT4305 and 4301 IC chips that are essential for that gate? Most noise gates i encounter have some form of tone suck that makes them not even worth it imo, even the KMA Pylon does it.

@erikvincent5846
@erikvincent5846 3 жыл бұрын
Someone else mentioned a similar mod in the comments with killing the distortion by adding a DPST or DPDT switch that makes or breaks the distortion circuit right after the input buffer and right after the hard clipping diodes. The EQ can always be broken up into its own gyrators, just like any gyrator based EQ (like our Rock Bottom, or the Boss GE-7), its just a matter of what frequencies and what Q's to use.

@@erikvincent5846 good idea. The unit I have will actually just turn the dial to Zero and no clipping... Even when fed with my Fuzz Face cranked out full saturation.. @erikvincent5846
@erikvincent5846 3 жыл бұрын
We will be releasing the "Meat Grinder" here soon, which is our take on the Univox Super Fuzz, which the FZ-2 is based on. Ours has a few extra changes to it, such as changing the tone-stack from a switch to a pot (and give it a sweep that actually makes sense) and an intensity to how hard it clips, making it less harsh, if you want it that way, or not, if you don't, making the pedal a bit more versatile. There will be a deep dive on that, as I want to cover the "octave fuzz" topology both these pedals are using and how it works.

@erikvincent5846
@erikvincent5846 2 жыл бұрын
The "Vin" or voltage-in, is my actual voltage input connection, which would be a "9v supply". However, I have this going through a series Schottky diode for a little reverse polarity protection. This also results in a slight voltage drop. It's still "close to 9V", so I label it "9V".
