After almost three years of owning the Titan BX42 Wood Chipper, I can say with confidence that it has been a good investment for me. I cover specs, setup and field testing in this video.

Good call on hearing protection too. I picked up a set of rose pruning leather gloves, they go up to the elbow and are made of cow leather. Keep my arms from looking like I was wrestling a pack of tigers, but sure gets sweaty in the summer.

Viewing or possibly re viewing this video a year + after you posted it. All great info and most comments were useful and supportive. I too appreciate the details and time you put into your videos. Great information. It confirms what I did to adjust the used one I bought. They had troubles of it clogging with small limbs. One adjustment on my part and it stopped clogging.

I have a couple years older version of the same chipper by Titan. It works great with the exception of handling live oak branches when the are loaded with green wet leaves. The ejection shaft gets clogged easily then. Other than that, it has been a valuable workhorse on our property.

Yes, green wet leaves are the Kryptonite for wood chippers. If anything is going to clog one those will do it. Thanks for watching!

Recently purchased a WOODMAXX MX 9900 to maintain my 17 acres. A commercial grade unit at a reasonable price. Run it on a Kubota L3830 (30.5 PTO-hp) I can't say enough good things about this chipper or the company (made in USA).

Martin, Very nice review as always. I greatly appreciate the torque specs. Their manual is not as clear as your video. I have the exact same chipper and it performs well for me on my tractor. My tractor only has 18 hp PTO. I limit my chipping to < 3 inches though and anything bigger becomes firewood. I bought mine with the optional bracket stand which allows the chipper to sit on the ground for stability and have the PTO shaft nicely horizontal. I use casters to move it around in the pole barn. I also wired in a remote Emergency Stop switch into my tractor. I mounted the E Stop switch next to the hopper and connect the wires to the tractor when I’m using the chipper. I’ve never needed it but the safety sally in the sky thought it was a good idea. Jim

Hi Martin. Well done review as always. Great advice on the forestry helmet. I always wear mine when using my Bearcat chipper as those branches seem to have an internal homing device to the noggin. Be well, Michael aka OTG.

I absolutely love my Pat's. Best thing I've ever bought for my tractor. I'm trying to decide between this one and the Woodland Mills 68. The WM has a 6-12 week lead time and costs $800 more, but it has a hydraulic infeed roller. I kinda need one now, not in three months. What do y'all think?

For what it’s worth, I’ve found the gravity feed chute to work well for my needs. Most limbs feed in fine by themselves. Bushier limbs may need some encouragement. If it’s important to you to be able to put limbs in and not have to pay attention to whether they feed properly or not, the hydraulic in feed roller may be worth it. On the other hand, the roller system is something else that can break and will require maintenance. The simplicity and ease of maintenance of the Titan were big considerations for me. @@DIYMyWayyou make a very good point about more parts to break down. I've already bought a few implements from Titan and have been happy with them for the most part. I highly recommend their flail mower, that thing will mow down little trees and grind down tree stumps if they're rotten, it also cuts grass as well as my mowing deck. I believe I'm going to buy another Titan implement. Thank you for your poignant reply. I subscribed as soon as you mentioned the feeler gauge and the torque specs.

Great review, Martin! I just happened to re-watch the clearing videos for the shop today and wondered when you'd get to this review. I bought a gas-powered chipper from D2 because I want to keep my tractor available for other things while chipping. You also mentioned making a video review for the D2 trailer. Is that coming too?

Thank you, David! A 3-point chipper made since for me because if I’m chipping wood, I’m not driving the tractor. Also, since I can take it on and off so easily with my Pat’s Easy Change system, it’s not a problem to quickly change to another implement as needed. Yes, thanks for reminding me, I’ll put the trailer review on the list of up coming videos to make. It has been a good trailer. The one thing to understand is that it is a TILT trailer, not a DUMP trailer. Thanks for watching!

Just got my BX42S and getting it set up. Great video; exactly what I was looking for. Thanks much. Using my chipper on a 2016 vintage JD 1026R. Have a couple of questions / observations. (1) Supplied PTO shaft seems to be be short enough already with about an inch of additional space left over. Is this enough? Seems like it should be. Don't want to shorten it if I don't have to since I may want to add a quick hitch later. That will give me an additional 4" so don't want to have to shorten the shaft any more. Thoughts anyone? (2) The set screws on either side of the chipper wheel look to be essentially M4 screws. A torque of 18 ft-lbs seems like a lot. Mine came with more like 4 ft-lbs. I'm afraid 18 ft-lbs will snap them off. Should I be worried?

Hi Robert! If by 1 inch additional space you mean there is one inch left for the PTO shaft to retract in length, then you are probably okay, just make sure you have a some of that inch left through out the full travel of your 3 point lift arms. There must be no position where it collapses all the way and binds. As for the set screws, if you are worried about the 18 ft-lbs then just tighten them as much as you are comfortable and hope for the best. If you have some Lock-Tite, a little dab on the set screws may give you peace of mind. Thanks for watching!

I bought the Wallenstein BX42 chipper, with 3-1/2" opening. Very disappointed as the chipper is very limited by the 3-1/2" opening. My oak branches were 2"-3" but had lots of side branches coming off the main beam that exceeded the 3-1/2" opening. Long straight branches great but any side branches won't go down thru the small opening.

I was wondering the same thing. They have one that has a hydraulic infeed and the chute is horizontal to make loading larger limbs easier. I think the one that I was considering was rated for 6" limbs and was around $3000. Pricey for sure, but if you add up all the times I've rented one, it begins to make sense

Nice video. I have a Skid Steer version of the Titan BX42S Wood Chipper. It uses a HCHC CMZ2050-BFHS hydraulic motor and the seals blew out of the motor. Does anyone know where I could get 2 new seals? They are made by NAK Sealing Technologies TCM 28x44x7 in china, but I can't find any suppliers that sell them.

Good luck finding the rotary blades for the BX 42S. Titan doesn't sell them and nobody else carries them, either. If you know where to get any, please reply. These are for the 24" wheel, 6" x 2".

Since these chippers are direct copies of the Wallenstein BX42, maybe the Wallenstein replacement blades will fit. As long as they don’t get damaged, they can be sharpened and of course can be flipped over to use the other edge. Thanks for watching!

Yeah. You have to find a Wallenstein U.S. distributor first. I think I emailed them once. I haven't looked for a distributor. These blades are ridiculously expensive. Fortunately they are also very durable and are easily sharpened. I hoping maybe some will show up some day. I've been looking periodically.

I do have a simmilar chipper. But mine does not suck in anything. Clearance is good . Knives ard sharp... about 500rpm what could it be?

Mine doesn’t suck in anything either. It is gravity fed. The limbs slide down the chute where they are greeted by the spinning blades. Occasionally I have to help by pushing the limb in to get it started. Thanks for watching!

Have been trying to get a ledger knife (stationary blade) for more than 6 months now. Titian cannot even get me the specs so I can have a local machine shop make one. Would not recommend this product.
